hey as some of you know i have a b18c2 in my eg hatch with si-r pistons in it eveyrhting else is stock and also stock ecu,the problem i have is that my redline is at 7200 rpm so it cuts out at that rev range.i heard the b18c should hit 7500 or 8000 rpm? any body know what the problem might be? and can you use a d series ecu on a b series? cheers

Its SiR not Si-R !!!

You cant use D series ecu on B series engine

Go to GPC tommorrow, Ill help u swap ecu's to see if that helps.

you did a b series swap and didnt change the ecu? uhhh.....
of course the ecu is the problem.
i wouldnt be running anywhere near how it should be either

He has b18c in EG, Aus spec EGs didnt come with b16as.

Besides b16a's still redlines towards 8k area.

Obviously he had a EG5 Vti D16y1. Did the engine swap but left in his old D16y1 ECU, having a 7200Rpm Rev Cut.

Mate go down to any honda wrecker and source yourself a OBD1 B18C2 ECU. If they don't have one contact either ProECU or ECU-MAN on this forum and they will be able to chip your current ecu giving it higher revcut and feul/ignition maps better suited to your engine.

You cant use D series ecu on B series engine:

I think you can. I know some people that have run there D-series P28 OBD1 ECU on there B16a's. Of course the fuel and igntion maps are all wrong for that particular engine. But it can suffice as a temporary.

You cant use a D series as is, without modification, to run a B16.

The D series ECU can be converted to control vtec, if you want you could ship the ECU to me and I can convert it for you.

The place where he did the conversion has many spare ecus for b series.

I dont see the point of using a d series in as a temp lol.

the point would be that he can have it converted to a vtec ECU & chipped with the honda factory program for next to nothing, compared to purchasing a second ECU for around $300

The ECU you would ideally want to swap for is a P72

yeh man i asked charlie what ecu he put on mine he said he doesnt know i was like wtf how couldu not know the guy has like 20 ecus just laying there is there a way of finding out what ecu i have just by looking at it or not?

Yeah

All Honda ECU's are serial Coded.

Look at the side casing of the ECU it will have a serial number, something like:
XXXXX-P30-G00

The P30 is the part you're interested in.

Have a look and reply back, I'll let you know what your options are

The D series ECU can be converted to control vtec, if you want you could ship the ECU to me and I can convert it for you.

But P28 is from a Vti SOHC VTEC With VTEC control already on. Whether SOHC or DOHC its still the same signal from the ecu that activates it.

You can't run a D-series ECU as is, without modification to run a B16a.

P28 can run any OBD1 VTEC Engine. FYI MY friend still had his D-Series P28 in his car when he picked up his car after his B16a Swap. Ran with codes but none the less it ran. Therefore your comment is incorrect.

A lot of the B18C(GSR) and LS-VTEC (etc) swaps in the USA are running chipped P28's.

if it's OBD1 motor and wiring, the P28 will work.. even OBD2 motors are able to be run from an OBD1 P28 with use of a harness-convertor.

IMO the P28 is an excellent and very versatile Honda ECU.

Yeah ok, Ive only been doing this for over 5yrs... I know what i'm talkin about.

There was no mention of a P28 in the priginal post.

I would hardly call an ECU which throws codes on a car a functional ECU !!

The D-series ECUs are not programmed for fuel & ignition requirements of a B16, let alone a B18C.
I still stand by my comment.

<flame suit on>

edit: BTW, are you aware the P28 can NOT control the IAB's of the B18C ?
(unless hardware & code modifications are made)
