hey guys, im trying to fit speakers in my 94 accord
the opportunity has come up to pruchase some new component speakers for the front doors, but the problem being is that they have a depth of 72mm, and i had a quick look at front doors and trims and it seems there is only a very small enclosure. does anyone here know of any methods to fit deep speakers into the front doors? i also want to keep them behind the standard door trims/grills. thanks for any help.
p.s i do have 15mm spacers i could use, but still the availavle clearance is about 65mm.

Sounds like you will need some deeper spacers; you may need to modify the standard speaker enclosure to make it bigger. I use a Dremal tool to cut the plastic as needed, if you’re having trouble best to take you car to a car audio specialist. The other option would be to choose a driver that has a shallower mounting depth. But for memory you should be able to fit a driver with that depth into the doors of a 94 Accord.

thanks heaps for that mate. i've done a little bit of searching on this site and found the info i need. i'll look into removing the plastic baskets or just modifying them to fit the magnet of the speakers.
cheers

all you need to do is cut some MDF spacers from 18mm. paint them after to seal them from the elements and you should be right...

shouldnt 15mm spacers be adequate? i have some already and saves me either buying or making 18mm ones

why does no one want to cut the plastic behind the stock speakers? it doesnt do anything? noone will see it? why does it matter? lol

hell yeh, after having a look around in the door today, im definately gonna be cutting that plastic thing. it serves no purpose that i can think of, and there's still about 25mm space between the back of it and the window when fully wound down.

the purpose it serves is it keeps water off the speaker :)
take it out, you wont need it. its been that long i cant remember what mine looked like before i fitted the speakers...
