What do you guys think of the way ozhonda moderator running this forums?

Whats the point of having the lounge section if its so heavily moderated and half the threads end up being locked ?

No one is defaming anyone or argueing.

Yeah I agree with Jinrai. I was actually contemplating posting up a thread about how ppl 'become' moderators.

Being a public forum, shouldn't us members be asked to vote in some sort of poll when admin is thinking about adding new mods to the site???

As a member of OzHonda I would like to know what's going on and have a chance to express my opinions regarding mods and whatever other status a select few ppl on here have.
Fairs fair don't you think?

LOL... of course it's who you know. To think anything otherwise would be naive.

OzHonda is a "not for profit" *taps nose* organisation, owned by a single person, and not this community. He can do whatever the fock he chooses.

Just don't forget that a community is made up of many people. These people have power too. (ala WRX enthusiast breakaway site OzWrx.com from the mainstream Rexnet.com).

The way it works is that basically we look at users who are online fairly frequently (doesn't have to be online 24/7) and tends to express themselves as being mature and sensible. We can only go by what is posted online/their online behavour in terms of assessing them.

Once we have a few users in mind, we just post it up in the mods section and if everyone agrees, he/she becomes a mod based on the other moderators feedback (no, I don't just choose who becomes a mod :))

OK after writing that I just realied that I think the thread was started due to something else.....so i'll let this go on its own way.

It's ironic that yo're posting in this thread :p

Anyways..........people (friends) always ask me if they can be a mod but I have to say no.......its not easy trust me.....especially when they are people you know.

Then the other problem is that when one member of a group of people who know each other well becomes a moderator.....then the others want to know why they didn't become a moderator. Then when friends become moderators, they don't always moderate objectively. It isn't as easy as it looks :p

hahah..since panda became a mod, i've noticed alot of threads in the lounge get locked straight up once the answer is given. wtf. So wheres the fun oin the lounge. hahah....anyway..i thikn the mods are doing a great job to be honest. I've seen other forums and they are by far much more poorly managed..I.e. the things they say, the way the forum is set out and the standard code of conduct.

coz it'll simply be a popularity competition eg. say we had

it would simply be melb voters vs syd voters.

It is not a popularity contest. What do you think this is - Australian Idol? Didn't Shannon Noel come 2nd a few years ago!! Was he the 2nd best singer in the contest? Make up your own mind :p The most popular person on Ozhonda is not necesarily going to be a good mod. That is my 2 cents.

it is a good and valid point made by the original poster, however (and i've seen this before, as i run a car club), too many opinions collide when you ask for everyones view. just look at the thread on shirts. each person likes to have their input and nothing ever gets done. sometimes it has to be chosen by a select few to do the thinking for the rest.
at times it may not be the best of decisions and we may not agree with it, but we as members have to respect the views of the people that control the site

Going back to the topic at hand ie. the author of this thread...

Or would you mind being more specific about your query (if any)?

Like panda has said, you can either lodge a complaint with wynode and I'm sure he'll get to the bottom of it asap.

i think the majority of the complaints here are from jealous people.

i also think people should be given power due to there input on "honda's" and their dedication to the site (i.e long-term users always making reputable honda related posts that seem friendly and dont flame others, 1 person i can think of off the top of my head is h22a accord, read heaps of helpful info and DIY stuff from him lately and his a long-term member) it should have nothing to do with the lounge

this is a honda forum, not a mothers club.. its not about general chit-chat in the lounge

mods such as ben, wyn, ecu-man, toe just to name a few set great examples.. always helping out with tech/honda related questions, aswell as having a good chat in the lounge. (btw, thanks for the timing belt help wyn and ecu-man, if it wasnt for people like u, my problem wouldnt have been solved)

certain mods seem to input more so in the lounge than anywhere else, which i believe isnt what this site is about, the only exception here should be if they're mods more for their computer skills rather than honda knowledge

i believe that there are certain people who have been members since 03/04 and have plenty of "reputable" posts. these members should be considered more so than newish members of 05 that are new and have a lot less knowledge than some of the older members here.. then again, i dont see any reason for new mods at all..

if the mods decide to put on new mods, then i believe it's for the best, and i agree with the decisions they make.. they are the people who run the site and if they did a bad job then we wouldnt be here would we?

just my 2c

Thanks for the comments Paul. Just so everyone knows, moderators aren't chosen purely on their technical knowlege, but also (depending on what area they're to moderate) their time online and apparent objectiveness / fairness.

Being a moderator doesn't mean you have to know the ins and outs of a car.......but means you can create an atmosphere where people respect each others views and the community gets along peacfully (that said, some technical understanding/backgound IS required). But once again.....it depends on what you are moderating. I mean look at panda......he doesn't know jack shit.........so we put him in the lounge.......hehe j/k

Maybe my contribution as a mod is less evident to that of some of the other mods..

Apart from the DIY article I wrote and the b16a faq which i constantly answer questions to .. atleast 1 per week via PM/msn/email .. i also do the feature car articles and up untill recently for a long time organized weekly coffee meets, wednesday night bball and helped out at cruises... and ontop of that general mod duties and giving advice/help where i can.

I do spend a bit of time in the lounge, i have a feeling paul was referring to me when made that comment, but for me Ozhonda isn't just a technical discussion/archive site, its a community and like the coffee meets and bball and cruises and meeting up for feature cars etc i like to meet and socialise with the guys .. even pop by at the clubs if the OH boys are there n have a drink with them etc...

Hopefully that gives people a bit of an idea of what i do around here unlike the typical forum nazi jumping on every mistake members make and delete posts/lock threads etc :D

^ good points. i was in the same boat last year ( i started the bball thing and u know it:D) i was helping organising mini meets/drives/coffee meets (back at icy lol) with melb members etc etc hell i was even at the first melb meet in the rain in 03
the only other member still around that i remember was there is toE

i know james, toE and myself (amongst others) also helped countless noobs that popped up in the mirc chat

i feel i have contributed to OH a fair amount (as have the other mods)
so i think this mod bashing is a lil unfair.

paul1985 you have alot to say about mod selection but nothing to say about their mod performance. does it really matter how the mods are selected as long as they do their job?
there's not much point in hating who is and who isnt a mod, it's not like the mods get paid or anything. if anything it makes more ppl dislike them for modding their asses

and yes benj is a mod-nazi :)
