At the moment i have a audiobahn 12' sub with a two channel coustic amp.. puts out 400rms at 2ohms bridged. For my next stereo i was thinking get rid of the sub and amp. But that got me thinking could i keep the amp and hook it up to front splits. then it would put out 200rms per channel at 4ohms. would that be to much power for a set of decent splits. and if i hooked up rear speakers jsut to the headunit would they be distorting whilst the spilts arnt? when i turned the stero up.. or would i be better of geting a 4 channel amp with say 100rms per channel? for the pslits and rear speakers. or will it be find having jsut the front amped.

or would i be better of selling the amp and sub and starting again.

also how do you hook two amps up is it just two power cables from the battery?

Personaly i prefer a 4 channel for the speakers. I did the same thing with a 2 ch amp and ran speakers from the deck and it was out of phase (before i knew any better)

I say keep the amp you have and add another one(4ch for splits or what ever). Run one cable from the battery(4ag) into a distribution block, then 2 cables from there to your amps(8ag minimum). A 1 farad capacitor will help greatly too, but not essential.

hope it helps
cheers

so that means ill try and sell my sub and amp together and then start fresh with new products. my sub isnt that good unless you in a hatch. im looking to upgrade to one decent quailty 15 with a new amp then im going tro get new amp for speakers and new speakers.

my idea is to amp the fronts and sub and run the rears off the deck as rear fill as your ears face forward you dont need to amp the rears...

just sell your sub, your amp will push a 15inch fine.... assuming it is 400rms like you said

yeh 400wrms bridged at 2ohm will not equate to 200wrms at 4ohm.
other than that i would not recommend running 200wrms to a set of splits unless their power requirement comes close to that. a normal set of components will require around the 100wrms range to be at full potential., overpowering will put your splits at risk of failure.
i think the best option for you is to buy a 4x100wrms amp like you suggested, bridge the two rear channels for your sub to run it at around the 250wrms range on 2ohm and then use the remaining two front channels to power your splits more than sufficiently.

why wont 400rms@2ohm equate to 200rms@4ohm?

yes, get the 4 channel for all your speakers. My advice is not to skimp on the amp either. This will make up for a massive amount of sound quality gained (or lost) depending on your amp. Keep you existing 2 channel for a new 15inch sub (unless you really want a new setup) as it will run any sub quite well.
That would be my bang for buck option.

Secondly, 200rms into speakers is a bit over kill, but none the less it will not harm them when set up properly... no doubt your amp will have an adjustable gain. As a general rule of thumb, it is better to have more power on tap than your speakers are rated at, to avoid clipping on a lower output amp. There is more chance of stuffing a speaker through clipping, than simply over powering them.

my amp does put out 400rms. its a coustic amp unsure of the quality of that. so i i were to just upgrade subs 400 rms would be a good amount of power to run it at. Would i get big bass with 400rms considering its got a good enclosure and all. Then just buy a new 4 channel amp for the speakers.

i current run a 12 inch audibahn sub in a box it came with and with my back seat up it dosnt really give out to much bass. but putting in mind the car isnt really set up for audio its like a tin can.

as i said before, buy a 4 channel amp for your speakers, and get your new 15" sub and hook it up to you existing 2 channel amp. IMO it should produce some nice bass.

Just remember that you usually get what you pay for.
