Yeah - it can fit fine if you get the offset right.

You can put on a +42 with an 8 inch but it will stick out. Not a lot - but it will stick out past the fender by 1 or 2 cm. Cops can defect you for that (although it is not so noticeable when you are moving).

If you can get those rims in a +48 that would be better.

i had a set of 8" rims on that were a 35 offset and they were level with the guard. however i had to change them once i got the camber kit.

I went to tempe tyres yesterday, they told me 8" rims is illegal, they won't fit on Euro:(

I fitted 19x8 on a euro and no problem at all! so I'm sure 17x8 is not a big deal

Another friend of mine bought a set of 19" rims, he went to a tyre shop to get some tyres and put them on his civic, and they guy went "No way, we are not going to fit those wheels on your civic..they are too BIG and impossible!! ...and he is laughing...
We managed to get tyres somewhere else, and fitted the wheels ourselves with no problem...

I hate those tyres shops...

I'm sorry I did not read the word 'illegal' in your post... I thought tempe tyres said 8" wide will not fit on a euro
But aren't you allowed to have 2" bigger and 1" wider..??
So if euro stock rims are 17x7, then you are allowed to go up to 19x8..so I guess 17x8 is fine

Rules differ state to state - so we need to be careful generalising.

In Vic look at this from Vicroads website:

Every tyre dealer has a copy of the Tye and Rim Standards Manual which includes details about load ratings, etc.
