hi guys, just a small question about servicing.
Suppose i have only done 6500km and my jazz is only 5mths old.
The service book says my next service should be 10,000km/6mth.
I think by the time when my car is 6mths, i'll only get up to around 8000km.
If i do service by the date, i feel a bit ripped because i feel i'll be servicing more frequent than i really need.
So, is it worth while to service when my 6th month has come?
PS: please excuse me for my typo error for the title "data". It was supposed to be "date"

what u can do is change the engine oil and oil filter yourself now...and do a service @ 10,000km

Go with the recommendation... so that they don't have excuse for the warranty... also, the engine works a lot harder in short trips... so, better to service every 6 months even you haven't rearch the mileage...

I just get the oil changed every 5,000km and do the rest of the log book service stuff every 10,000km.
Don't worry about the time factor unless your clocking less than 5,000km a year in which case an oil change every year wouldn't be a bad idea.
Useless fact - Most Ferraris in Australia do less than 2,000km a year but still should have the oil changed every 12 months.

damn, my mum's civic is worse off since it's the same age as my jazz and it's only done 1500kms.

hmm, won't that mean you pay more for labour because you have to go back to honda more frequent?

yeah.. I do oil change myself every 5000km in between service requirement...

Wouldn't trust a Honda dealer for any service (Honda service is an oxymoron) let alone pay their rates. How about all those CRV fires in the US because the Honda dealers can't even manage seal the drainage plug properly after they change the oil.
Take it to a Honda specialist like Hannys in Sydney. You can watch what's done and you don't have to leave your car for an entire day just for an oil change. They run their outfit more like the way servicing is done in Japan. How many dealer mechanics have trained and worked with Honda Japan, let alone worked with HRC and Honda racing in Japan? I'd say zero.
I think a few litres of oil is a small price to pay for optimum performance. If I thought cars were just whitegoods I'd be driving a Toyota fridge.

The term 10,000km/6mth is to be taken as whichever occurs first, get it serviced in 1 month.

I've only done my first service and that was with rockdale's honda.
Has there been any bad rumours/comments about them?? I go there because that's where i got my jazz and i can drop off my car easily on my way to uni.
Where is Hanny's by the way?
Also for my mum's civic, what should i really do?
Doesn't seem right if i do 10,000km/6mth service so soon since it's only 1500km on the clock.

Just be sure to check with Honda regarding this as they may not honour the warranty otherwise.

I've been there for every service and never had any problems, in fact I've been to far worse mechanics before :(
(My jazz's next service is 100,000km!)
But I've heard some bad stories about the place from someone else on this forum. After my warranty is up I'm planning to service it myself anyway.
You should follow the manual and do 6 month even if you haven't done many km's. The age is more important than the km's.. the fluids don't perform their best any more and infrequent or short trips cause more wear in the engine.
Twice a year is not much to ask for keeping your car in tip-top condition.

Hannys is at Smithfield. You might clock up a couple of kms if you drove there. Every time I go down there there always seems to be at least 1 NSX in for service.
I'd be surprised if any fluids broke down after only 6 months of sitting around but hey I'm sure heaps of people would no better than me. I know oils do start to break down after 12 months. Alot of other car brands service intervals now are 20,000km/12 months. eg. Holden, Ford.
Its a very big restrictive trades practices problem for car manufacturers to claim that servicing at a non marque dealership will have any effect on warranty. Dealerships make more money from servicing than sales so you would think they would lift there game but they trade on the ignorance that people still persist to believe that they won't have any warranty if they have anyone but the dealership service their car.
I don't find it a tough choice who works on my car - dealership 1st year apprentice who won't have a job at that dealership after his apprenticeship because he'll cost them a fair wage vs Honda specialist mechanic with decades of experience.
The main issue I have with contemplating doing my own oil change is how do you safely and legally correctly dispose of the old oil? There is an EPA fee for oil disposal too I think which you have to factor into the other costs (the oil, filter, time, mess, proper equipment)? I think its quicker and easier to have it done by a pro.

my family's MDX clocks up 10,000km in 9-10 months. when i took the car for 40,000km service last time, and was about 9 months later than its 30,000km, the dealer didn't say a word of void warrenty or anything. but i've decided to service the car at 5,000km mark between regular service interval at some local mechanic.( i mean, those places you can actually see the oil change performs, and god damn how much will it cost you for just labour for an oil change ?!) i think it will be good coz your car will be at its optimum performance and the max labour u would expect to pay is gonna be $50 or something?!) its a good investment at fraction of cost!
my mum's 98 V6 camry is now clocking up to 140,000km and see does oil change at every 5,000km and the car drives exceptionally fantastic!(she didn't bring the car to toyota at all except a faulty window motor)

20,000kms service intervals are just down right scarry. I change the oil in the Jazz myself every 5000kms and take it to the stealership for servicing every 10,000kms as well. Wished there was a place like Hanys in Melbourne.

the 20000kms service internal is what Honda recommends.
If you feel uncomfortable, you can do it more frequently if you wish to.
At the end of the day, it's your car after all.
VIVIDJAZZ - if u change the oil yourself, then just pour the old used oil back into the engine oil bottle and bring it to any one of the neighbourhood Waste Management Centre. there, you can dispose it for FREE. they limit you to 2 bottles of oil at a time.
i get my jazz serviced at Hanny's too .
