hey peeps

i heard these lights cannot be used with HID systems. Is it because they have plastic casing rather than glass? Im sure the latest bmws use composite material (not glass) as the main headlight face. Could the same material be used in the production of the angel eyes sets that flood ebay.com.

well i dont know. just wondering if anyone has these types of lights and has HID equipped. Are there any signs of burning on the lenses?

thanks. any info appreciated.

i've asked around, and each time i've been told there is no problem. I was going to do the same, but my angel eyes seem to light up the road 100X better than standard. I'm getting some decent bulbs (those ultra white kind), and that should suffice.

i dont see why there should be a prob.
HID actually runs with less wattage than regular bulbs cos its an arcing lamp rather than a filament and actually produces less heat than regular bulbs (efficiency)
if you can sometime put your hand against the front of a HID headlight and feel the temp. then compare this with regular headlights.
i think there is some misinterpretation with the do not use HID labels. i reckon (though dont quote me) they are reffering to high wattage bulbs eg. 100w - 130w instead of 55w - 65w. its using filament bulbs with a high wattage that will burn stuff.

seems like we can use HID with these lights. YAY

I would not use the projectors provided with these angel eye / projector head light sets.

I would retrofit a set of OEM HID projectors from another vehicle into the the projector casing.

Fitting one of those "HID Kits" into a non HID projector will be disasterous:

A good HID retro fit should look like this:

Note that fitting HID equipment to a vehicle that does not come with them from the factory is illeagal.

If you're drving past me with a shithouse "HID kit", I'll be the first to jot your license plate down and hand it to the RTA.

Shell out for some OEM S2K, BMW, Mercedes or Audi projectors.

I have most of the time used my HID's in angle eye headlights and they have been fine. Its actually meant to be better because you get a more direct light. But if the headlights say not to use them, then I wouldn't. But I ran mine for about a year and I had no problems, and could see much better than without.

i've got a set of projectors/angle eyes, and recently installed a hid kit into em, produces the same type of lights, as in doesn't glare or look like the light is spreading everywhere, it's just brigther as in, i can see more, but the way it throws out the light, is the same as using normal halogens.

destrukshn:

Can you please position your car infront of a wall, turn your headlights on, and take a photo?

Can you also take a picture of how your headlights look going down a street?

Could it be that those guys lights aren't aimed properly?

No. It is to do with intrinsic design of the projectors.

The first photo uses after market halogen projectors (like angel eyes) and a "HID kit".

The second is a Lexus ES300 using a 'HID Kit' in OEM halogen projectors.

The final photo is from an WRX STi with a factory fitted HID kit.

The only way at present to achieve a proper HID set up is to obtain the projectors from an OEM set up (prefeably with ballasts etc, but these can be bought after market), and modify a set of after market projector housings (like angel eyes) to fit them.

Note that a retro fit, even when done properly is still illeagal. Some members of Skylines Australia are attempting to have Mercedes projectors retrofitted to R32s engineered. It's a slow progress so far.

Note that even though R34 Skylines were fitted with OEM HID set ups, they must be "destroyed" during compliance. The Transit authorities take this very seriously.

I'm still waiting for destrukshn (or anyone else) to post photos. I wager that they do not provide a sharp cut off, but do scatter light, and have hot hotspots.

not really. they are a practical upgrade. is a performance exhaust and big wheels rice? (actually, big wheels on hondas.......)
would you prefer a candle or a torch?

Unless ofcourse the said vehicle is fitted with globes rated above 5000K (I'd say 4300K, but they do age).

People think that the blue tinge of higher temperatures is cool, but they produce less light, and they arn't very cool when you drive in the rain and can see sweet **** all.

sivic

true that. 4500k-5000k is pretty much optimum for contrast and light output.
but those only interested in "blueness" will generally stay with filament bulbs as they usually arent to concerned about brightness

BUMP.
