Hi guys,

Just called a couple of wreckers today and found out B16Bs half cuts are really hard to find. But hondwrecks in Vic has a B16B engine ONLY.The engine only is AUD2200. I was wondering if it's possible to find the rest of the parts else where? If yes, what else would I need for the conversion. I guess buying a B16A2 would be more economical right?

Also, what about putting a B18CR in it? In victoria I searched up vicroads about the laws and stuff

Didn't find anything on that 10% engine displacement increase. Only read that if you want to modify, will need to consult a VASS signatory.

Here's the list:

Any comments?

Please search not only these civic forums, but the entire site. There's a wealth of information just waiting to be read.
Did a quick search and found these two threads.

IMO if your thinking about doing a conversion to a b16b, for dollars you pay, dont waste your time and just get b18c.

but keep it 1.6, be the underdog and stick with the b16a

B16b is good...you'll just need harness, ECU, and gearbox...and someone to fit it...hmm...do you want B20 Tec?..hehe..

b16b is fantastic. but can you justify spending that much more to still stay in a 1.6 class?

i agree, you would appreciate the extra torque in from b18, otherwise stay b16

Yeah I would agree that B18 are more powerful in terms of torque and hp. I am just worried about the laws and stuff you know. Dun wanna get into trouble after spending so much money on it. I am looking to be spending something around 5K to 7K on the mods on the EG GLi. If it is going to cause problems with the authority in VIC then not worthwhile to convert to B18, right....?

get it engineered if your willing to spend that much money on the car.

problem solved and you wont have to shit your pants everytime you take your car out

i have an EM1.. my insurance is $1600 with NRMA under my fathers name...
I recently lost my licence... I asked for a quote with just cars for EM1 under my name and WITH a B20 crvtec conversion and i also told them i had lost my licence recently... They quoted me $1400

hahhaahah its cheaper to get insurance with a b20 then a b16 hheheeh... but with just cars eheh

If you are going to spend so much money converting your car to vtec you might as well go b18... u would need everything from motor mounts to gbox etc etc etc..

A b16b is only really good for b16a people as they dont require as much parts..
But then the b20 is even better as it would be faster and cheaper to do..

ill go the b18c swap or get a jdm eg sir...
