Did a fault check on a friends civic and has error 22 showing up.

This has happened before but GPC fixed it and now it has come back again.
And when the engine light comes on, VTEC cuts off

I know this is the TDC sensor but what does this mean? The sensor is faulty, or something not running well with the engine?

Code 22 is Vtec Oil Pressure Switch, not TDC

do the honda manual diagnostic test for VTP.

Just out of interest, what year is the Civic and is it using a "chipped" or standard ECU?

check your oil level fellas

flushed oil, and changed to 5w-30 with a new filter. vtec worked for a few days, then cut out last night, and hasn't worked since...

btw, can a faulty o2 sensor cause vtec not to engage?

Could be a faulty switch

Na not the oil. Engine was just full rebuilt with 11.5 aries pistons. And the standard b16a exhaust manifold had 2 o2 sensors. I only have one connected, could this be the prob???

Not sure if that is the source of your vtec not working, however this WILL cause closed loop issues.
Either permanently run the car in open loop, or re-connect your second O2.

Do you have hesitation problems in low-mid load?

Do you connect the 2 sensors together??? I cant figure out where the second one goes.

get yourself a workshop manual.

depends what ecu your running,
OBD0 B16A have two O2 sensors, if you are running OBD1 then you need not worry anout the 2nd O2 sensor
leave it disconnected.

If you got lots of milage, pull off the VTEC pressure switch, you will find that there is a wire mesh element in there. It acts like a filter from foreign objects... engines with poor oil changes will have lots of greasy oil buildup which pretty much cloggs up that mesh.

Take it off clean it with carby cleaner, and if you have access to a pressure sprayer connected to a compressor, spray it out clean!

The oil seal will be pretty cactus at that point, i dont recommend you reuse it go to honda and get a new oil seal for it
