Stupid question i know, i really havent looked at the paper work.
Thing is, i picked up my car on the 31st of December 2004. So i dont know if i have a 05 spec'd euro or an 04 one. Any where i can look? Thing is though, i have a full 16' tyre as a spare and not the space saver..
Once again, stupid question i know :(

id say it be 04 spec, seing as the 05 came with 17" rims, and cars are usually manufactured a few months before they get here, easiest way to tell is look under ur bonnet at the id tags.

Thats what im thinking, but i was reading the stickied threads on the top and they said on the Lux they Euro got 17', but the STD still has 16" and one of the main differences was the Space saver wheel and the new 'Milan red'

05 spec'd Euro Luxury's got the 17"
the standard kept the 16"
My guess is that you got an 05 Spec but 04 build

mine is built 04 december, but 05 complied cuz i got the upgraded 17's + full size spare
It is simple really - the buttons on the steering wheel light up on the 05 model when you turn on the headlights. That is my understanding.
So whether or not you have the lux - you can spot the difference by turning your headlights on.
The full size spare tyre does not necessarily mean it is the 05 model as some dealers fit this anyway (mostly at the request of the purchaser).

exactly.
The wheels are not a definitive indication of 04 v 05.

Actually, the 05's are built in 04, that's how they can start selling 05 as soon as 2005 comes about. The car's don't get built in 1 day and shipped here by plane unfortunately.
In the US they start selling 05 cars in October 2004. Americans, taking our stock... otherwise I could have been driving around with a full sized spare and lit steering wheel controls too.

it may be classed as an 05 spec to honda when they sell it but when its time to trade it'll most certainly be an 04 model...even to honda..
car dealers will always say when you are purchasing that you need to look at the compliance plate not the build but that is absolute rubbish... if you are able to buy 05 build and compliance then buy it unless they are offering a ripper of a deal on the 04 build 05 compliance.

Hmmm... car dealers can always be dodgy when it comes to these things :(

Open your bonnet, Look on the passenger side suspension tower, see what is the built date on the plate, while you are there, you can also see it's compliance date as well...

No way do I make you all look dumb. I just read lots on the US tsx forums, lots of good stuff to learn over there.

Ok, Build date 11/04 and compliance plate 12/04
Thing is,
a) space saver wheel - now i know that people have said you can request this, but i didnt it just came with the car
b) my buttons on the steering wheel light up when i turn the headlights on.
But going by the date i guess its a MY04

No - it is the 05 model. Forget about when it is built. It has the features from the 05 model which means it is the 05 series. It will be the same with the 06 series - you will be able to take delivery in 05.

Dont get me wrong, im hoping its the 05 Model!
Its pretty odd though, but by talking to members here it seems that yes its an 05 model, so a MY05 then :)

Relax - it is the 05 model. It isn't really odd at all - plenty of manufacturers start building the cars for the next year (with any updates, etc) many months early.

But like the others said, when it's time to sell, it's based on the built date sadly....

Doesnt really bother me, it will be traded in and whatever is new i'll get. Work pays for it, i get to keep it :)

So it's better to buy earlier in the year to get a 05 build and 05 complied vehicle than say towards the end of the year when it's a 05 build but 06 complied vehicle?

If you are buying a car say in 2007, you would rather it had a 2007 build date, otherwise it will be classed as a 2006 for trade in or in assessing market value etc.
It is just something to be weary of if buying a car say in Jan/Feb.

Its calender year which is more important for resale.

Benifit for me is that im a rep, so im putting alot of km's on the car.
If i go to sell it i can either say (for example)
2005 model - 40,000kms
or
2004 model - 40,000kms "oh and by the way, its a 2005 spec'd car"
The 2004 option would look alot better, if u get what i mean.

I get what you mean but I disagree with your logic.
At the end of the day the compliance date will reveal how long you have had the car for (roughly obviously, not exactly) so they will know that it isn't two years at 20,000kms which is what you are implying.
Dealers will try to convince people at trade time of all sorts of things. It is a negotiation tactic. If you are a good negotiator and the condition of your car is decent I seriously doubt it will make any difference on your trade in if a car is built Dec 04 but is complied Jan 05 (as opposed to built Jan 05/complied Jan 05).
Don't accept everything dealers say to you - eg oh this is the 2004 model, even when it is the 2005 series etc.
To suggest dealers go by calendar year to assess market value doesn't make sense either. In that calendar year there could be 2 different series of the same vehicle. Sometimes those upgrades are significant (eg the 06 WRX - totally different front end).
If I buy the 2005 WRX (built in 2005) and also the 2006 series WRX (built and delivered in 2005) - will they be worth the same as both built in 2005? Of course not - the series of the vehicle makes a difference.
It all comes down to how you negotiate - makes much more difference than any red book or so called book value of the car according to the dealer.
