ok every crx/civic owner should roughly know the spec of a CRX SIR
I wanted to make this a poll but I don't know howto,
but anyway I'm not trying to sell anything here
I just want to know roughly how much I should be spending on this car.

CRX SIR how much would you pay if you had 7 to 10 grand to spare.
Please tell me come pros and cons with if it you can.
and no rediculas price like 1k :thumbdwn:

hopefully this would be me to get one next month,
thanks guys in advance. :o

what are you asking?
are you asking to buy the car ?
or buying mods for the car ?

Well u can get them over in japan for like 2-3k @ auctions.

So bringing it over here will be prob all up around 4-5k.

So dont go over that. or 6k @ max.

what about the new 15 year law thing that's just been introduce? wouldn't that affect the price over all as well?

The going rate seems to be around 10k. The 15yo rule is finished but some are still being brought in (they were purchased in japan before the law changed). Just be aware most of the 10k ones are in pretty average condition. The last few will dry up soon tho and then I'd expect the price to go up over the next 12months as there aren't anymore available. And as for 6k? Yer right! Whoever's going to import it for you isn't going to do it for free and there's compliance too mate, and you can't import them anymore anyway.

I personally saw an immaculate EF7 (with 70,000kms) go for just under 9K a year or so ago from one of the local importers. So I would guess around 10K-ish would be fair for a *good* EF8.

And isn't the 15yo rule a 30yo rule now?

You can only import 1989 or older models using the "15 rule system"

a few SIR's were made late in 89 but gl finding them.

I'm confuse

SIR's were only made 89-91 and because the 15yo rule now only applies to cars after 88 they can no longer be imported from Japan.
Some people imported them before the rule changed.

I imported an EF9. Great car and very happy with it but importing is such a hassle - the beuracracy you have to contend with is pretty major. The added cost and time to get a boat from Japan is frustrating. Since demand from China is so strong there arne't that many car carriers ships interested in coming to Australia. I waited close to five months after purchasing to receive my car! IMHO spend the 10k+ its cheaper and more convenient and alot less stress.

so over all how much did you spend?
buying the car, importing here, getting it on road.?

bollocks to that
go find me one complied for that price.

you are better off finding one here. i was quite happy paying 10 or so for my old ef8. could count the faults on one hand. and that is good for a 15yo car.

Rough guess about 11-12k.....but that includes compliance and install new t/belt, w/pump, plugs , leads etc. It is a mint cond'n EF9 though, well looked after by its owner.

I picked up my black with metalic red flakes 1990 crx SiR 94000km on thursday the 18th of the 8th. roughly cost me 14g total including my insurance and rego. No rust no problems, Tanabe struts front n back. All options and a tanabe 2.5" stainless exhaust all the way the through with tanabe sports muffler and tip. but then factor in getting a service done just to make sure everythings ok.

I think the SiRs were first manufactured in '89 so they won't qualify under the new rule. Regarding import costs, you're probably looking at closer to $4500 to $5000 now on the road on top of the Japanese price. A/C needs to be drained before sending and then upgraded to the r134a refrigerant so that's an extra $300 to $400 alone.

Really we're getting the last of em, and the ones I've seen for 10k are really really average ie stuffed paint, stuffed interior etc. Anyone got any connections in japan to hookup stuff from yahoo? There's a few bits and pieces I'm after. As for a cruise maybe we have to have a SiR and Limited Edition CRX only cruise.

My EF9 set me back 9 grand (including trade-in of my ED6) almost 6 years ago.

Can''t fault it - it shits all over aust-market civics... 296,000kms on the original motor aand it's still going strong. Then again, I got in before they were popular imports and got a good one.

a few SIR's were made late in 89 but gl finding them. I've spoken to a couple of specialist importers and when the 15yo rule was in (about a year and a half ago) I had trouble finding a good si let alone an sir........had to settle for a good ausdm.....was very dissapointed when I rang up recently and the importer who I'm close friends with said and I quote ''You'd be more likely to smash paris than to find an 89 sir to import atm'' :( Look out paris :D

I've seen them on car sales lately. I got mine just before the laws changed. There are a couple of 1990 SiRs coming in as they were purchased in japan before the law changed, it is still possible to pick one up if you look around. Check carsales, i've seen 4 different ones on there in the past 3mths
