I,m sorry to bring this up guys I know oil has been talked about so much but with so many suggestion do not know how to make my mind up.  :(

Last oil change @ 10,000km I used Fuchs 0w-20 oil which seems to be a bit to thin after all.

Today am going to exchange it so what do you think is really best out of the premium range of motul to best suit a Euro

a. 300V Power 5w-40

b. 300V Chrono10w-40

c. 300V Power 5w-30

All oils are fully synthetic & have Motuls Double Ester Technology

r u going to change the oil every 5000km? if so, you dun need that expensive oil at all...
anyway, all three above should be okay for your euro...

I currently do but after I change over to motul will change oil every 10,000km

If you do 10,000km in around 12mth or more, is it too long for the oil?

I know it's a big different for 10,000km to be done in 3 to 6 mths.

10,000km or 6 months is ok. All 3 grades can provide adequate protection for the Euro. The specs is 1 step from 10W-30. So these are ok:
5w-20
5w-30
5w-40
10w-20
10w-30
10w-40
15w-20
15w-30
15w-40

Of course some are better for certain conditions, so 5w-20 might be too thin for summer.

So, anyone just using honda's FEO 10w30? Note that dealer oil is mostly NOT honda's own oil....

Yeah, my dealer puts in Magnatec! I think it is 10w-40. I'm going to put in Formula R 5w-30 at my next service in 2 months.

Slugoid
29-08-2005, 02:37 AM
Dealer uses Magnatec FMX that is 10W-30, I believe, not your standard 10W-40 that you can buy from the shops.

aaronng
29-08-2005, 11:36 AM
is FMX semi-synthetic or full?
I know my dealer uses the crappy mineral version. You can buy it for $24 at super cheap, but the dealer charges $45. I'm bringing in my own oil next service.

Slugoid
29-08-2005, 05:05 PM
FMX is semi-synthetic

Try going to another dealer or change oil yourself.

So far this dealer has been ok with regards to rattles and squeaks. So I'll BYO oil this time. They also do the car wash with a high pressure spray, so no swirls from them too.

I'd go 10w40 as well unless you track your car often.
Even if you do track your car often, you would change the oil before and after to keep the engine in top condition, so maybe 10w40 for daily driving then 5w40 or 5w30 for track.

That's Right & I have 4x4L thus = `16L of it plenty to last me a while.

I was told that its the best thing I could use in my accord euro especially if I am going to keep my car long term (i.e. 100,000km +)

I use xcess 8100 motul oil and it works very well for the old h22a. Plus its not as pricey as the 300V stuff.

Hi REV888,

Can I ask what issues you need to have the dealer look at?

Yep You Sure Can. Heres the run down just got my car back from the Dealer.

A. Change Oil & Filter new Oil to Motul 300V 10w-40 Crono. ohhh my goodness its worth every cent ! Words can not explain how good my euro drives so... elegantly, smoothly yet oh ! so more powerful!

B. Car Brakes: Once the discs get hot in stop start traffic they tend to sound like there grinding some how and less brake performance. Dealer found no issue even though they took the pads off. I think its the discs but will see if the sound gets worse.

C. My Paint Protection: Had it applied when I got the car and found its been useless (Just a great initial shine on the car for the 1st 2 months). $500 down the drain I have swirl marks and scratches over the car.

Now need to buff the car to get rid of swirl marks & scratches once donw will wax it myself. NOT HAPPY! as dealer can not do anything.

Coolness... Smoothness in engine revs is what I like... Does it rev more freely and openly now?

B. Car Brakes: Once the discs get hot in stop start traffic they tend to sound like there grinding some how and less brake performance. Dealer found no issue even though they took the pads off. I think its the discs but will see if the sound gets worse.

If you want, you can just use some rough grade sand paper to sand the disc down first.. If not, the discs are highly to be wrapped... A visit to the mechanic and having them machined is the next thing to do..

C. My Paint Protection: Had it applied when I got the car and found its been useless (Just a great initial shine on the car for the 1st 2 months). $500 down the drain I have swirl marks and scratches over the car.

Any idea what brand was the PP? I used to have MING and they worked great :D

How many km was this service done at?

What oil was in your car before?

Did you break in your brakes properly?

Who caused the swirls? Yourself or the dealer's wash? Some people have been known to get the PP money back after showing swirls. Which reminds me I still have to try to remove my 'free swirls' when I have the time. :(

What oil was in your car before? I had a 10,000Km Service 2 months ago before I left to go over sea at the time put it 0w-20 Fuchs Oil when I got back and drove the car round felt it was a bit to thin so changed it to motul

Did you break in your brakes properly? For the 1st 3000km I did not go past 4000RPM I treated the car like a new born baby ;)

first thing, never get the dealer to wash the car for you! they tend to use same sponge ( with sands and greases) for all of the cars.

second thing, with regards to your brakes, its definitely wrapped... why i know this? coz my MDX had the same thing and i brought to local brakes shop and they machined it but still no improvement. so went back to dealer and told them the discs are wrapped..and they changed them under warrenty. But, its comming back again :S:S and rxtremely disappointed on OEM rotors. so i ordered a set of brembos and can't wait until they arrive and put them on...( they are still on the ship heading here:S)

I bit off topic, where do you get the Euro oil filter from?? From the dealers or from repco or something?? And roughly how much will it set you?

I wanna try this Motul 10W-40 oil and see if it's really that good.

I've just had my car serviced the other day, and I use Motul 300V Chrono 10w-40, and OMG, I must say it does make a difference compared to using Castrol Formula R 5w-30. Engine revs more freely now, haven't felt the car bogs down since. But of course the engine oil is still fairly new, so I'll see what it likes after a few months.

Hi everyone,

Anyone using Mobil 1 on the Euro? I was going to bring this to the dealership to be told that this oil will not benefit the engine in anyway etc.

What about the Honda Oil? i think Castrol formulated this for Honda

I've already found out that they were using Castrol Magnatec on the service intervals on the 1K & 10K service for my Euro

Time to change to full synthetic, i reckon.

I have my car booked in next Wednesday for it's 10K service and seriously considering the 10W-40 Motul 300V oil but I'm finding it hard to justify $180 for 2 containers of the stuff vs the $50 Honda will charge for the "Caltex" stuff. Is the Motul really that much better and is there a cheaper fully synthetic oil I can get that's just as good (or nearly just as good)?

I don't think it is worth $180. Just get the Motul 8100 xcess- it costs around $60 for 5 litres and is full syn.

4L is not enough - with every oil change I have had Honda have returned to me about 0.5 of a litre (from a 5 litre container).

I changed from Elf fully-syn to Motul 8100 and the car feels not as smooth as before obviously. But if you are not going to rev really really hard or going to race i think it will be far more than enough.

My fd is using Endless oil right now and he is so happy about it, he use motul 300v 10w40 before.

See what do you need and pick the right oil
