Have you looked at the changeover of just selling the auto car and buying a manual car?

I'm sure Hanny's would be able to do the job for you.

The transmittion would cost 3000 to replace

i tried selling the car an no dealer wants it

i tried trade in but then they would only take it for $4000, which is a bloody rip cuz if i sell it private it'll be around $11000.

If i do fix it and then sell it private ill get all up around $7000, which i dont mind at all, but then who says people would buy a 10yr second hand car as private.

Hanny's would do it??? I hope so, ill call them on monday

Even if Hanny's don't want to do the job they'll put you in contact with someone.

$4K, that's just rude. Not as if its not a popular vehicle. I bet it was a Honda dealer that offered you that as a trade too.

I seriously reckon for $4k you could quiet possibly swap in a b16a 1/2 cut and do the transmission swap in the process.. depending on labour costs. You would at least come close to finishing it. IMHO i think that if your gonna pay $4k for a auto -> manual swap, that would be a better path. Then again, if you sold the car for around $11k and used the $4k also, you could buy an EK4 (stock with b16a)

It may be cheaper again to just source a D-series engine and tranny that is manual, and pay someone to swap it in (as u mentioned u arent too great with cars) rather than pay $4k to do the auto -> manual.. The downside to this though is u could be getting a worse engine than whats in your car now and because your current D-series engine is obviously fine. I personally wouldnt do this, but it is an option.

Just stating some available options :)

i think the best option is to..
Sell the car, buy a similar model in manual.. that way you more than likely will come out even, you will save the $4k.. It all depends on what u want though really

ok this is where newbie talks come on

i've heard it too many times so i assume the engine is somehow connected to the tranny? what is all this B16a and B16b stuff???

the thing is my CVT transmittion is stuffed, and i definitely DO NOT want to replace it with another CVT gearbox. i tried selling but got knocked back too many times, even if i fix it with a CVT gearbox and sell it privately for $10000, not many people would want it.

The car is perfectly fine with an excellent body and the engine sounds great, the only thing is the gearbox. Finally decided not to sell the car and fix it up, but if fixing the tranny, i rather put in a manual then another CVT just to see it stuff up again.

I wouldnt mind selling my civic and getting another one that is the coupe, i love that one, but then i dont see many chances of me selling it. Also who says if i buy another one then that car is in good condition, im too tired for anymore second hand cars and their trouble. want to just drive to uni and back with ease.... haha

thanks guys!

Fair enough. Well if your car has a sound engine and your happy with it, keep it. Have u been quoted on how much it would cost to get the problem fixed? You should probably do that before anything else. Also if the problem is fixed properly i dont see why u should have too much trouble trying to sell your car. If you wanna tranny swap instead of fixing the auto, you would be better taking it to someone who specializes in honda's, no doubt they would be able to do it, but it will be expensive. I've had nothing but trouble taking my car to mechanics that arent specialized in hondas and i wouldnt let one touch my transmission, thats just me though.

The b16a and b16b are different types of honda engines. Under the civic forum on this website is a FAQ on b16a's which has plenty of info u could read up on if your interested.

When i was mentioning getting a b16a as an option. The reason for this option is because u can buy a manual b16a engine and transmission (in a half cut the two should come together). That way all the gear that runs your car would be manual, not auto. You just swap out your old engine and auto tranny for this new engine and manual tranny rather that trying to swap all your auto gear to manual. But swapping engines isnt always reliable and can cost alot of money, if all u want is a car to get u to and from uni and your happy with it now, then it probably isnt worth it. Better to just fork out the money to get your problem fixed up.
