Hey there,
Just quick questions, dont know if they been answered here before
I just bought a Honda Prelude Vti-R 98 model bout a month or so ago, just wondering where can I get the car key copied from, i been told it has sum chip inside?
i only got one key with the car n it does not work in the dash box, neither with the back seat release.. the key only works in the ignition and the boot, what could be the problem?

does anyone have the workshop manual for this car????

tc everyone
ride safe :P
njoy ur day!

You might have got the wrong key. Honda has something called the valet (spelling) key. Which only works in certain locks.

To get another key you will need to get it through Honda and quote the 3 or 4 (can't quite recall) digit number on the small metal tag which should be on the key ring to get the correctly programmed key, same deal as 98+ Integras.:)

yes that's what you should be getting.

black = opens everything.
grey = opens doors and ignition only. (note:no boot)
red = opens everything, but doesn't allow black and grey keys to be used once it is used. (i think) :o

i think the red key is actually the programmable key, its used to transfer data to the new key, so its able to work in the ignition?

yeah red key aint suppose to be used, its the master key to make copy with. Once you put it in the ignition it wipes out the ignition recognition for the other keys.

No, but from 98+ they came with an immobiliser with circuitry built into the black key.

r u sure about that? Honda told me that the red key is to make a backup key if you've lost one of your black keys....

yeah it does make backup copy (main purpose), but they also explain never to put it in the ignition as it wipes the memory.

hi,
I just bought a 98 Prelude VTiR and it only came with one grey key and one black key... no red key... does this mean if I lose my black key I can't get another one made?

When I bought my 2001 VTi-R it came with

* 2 x Black Keys - Master keys, work with everything + have immobiliser code chip
* 1 x Grey Key - Valet key, works with ignition and boot to allow the valet to park your car/load in your bags etc

If you read, I think it's the user manual... it says that you can buy the Red key from Honda, and that it is used to re-code your immobiliser should you lose your keys.
