Hey guys.

Im looking for a cheap EG for my project car.
Im gonna be dropping another engine in it so it doesnt have to be the newest and best, 1 thing i want though, is for it to be black. Just the standard black u see on black civics.

Because im looking for a cheap, most likely earlier model EG, i dont think i'll find one in black.

So i was wondering if anyone knows what sort of price getting a EG resprayed in black would cost? i wanna goto somewhere well known also.

I dont want any special paint, i want it just like the standard black EG

Im just trying to figure out whether it would be cheaper to get a real cheap EG and have it resprayed. If getting this cheap EG resprayed is gonna cost just as much a newer EG that is black, then id prefer to go the newer one.

Thanks for the help if anyone knows

obviously he knows that already, that's why he's asking how much it is to respray..

HONDA, CIVIC SI 1993 $11,900
Black, 3d hatchback, 140,000 kms, Manual

thats what i want but for half the price.. lol

HONDA, CIVIC BREEZE 1992 $5,995
White, Hatchback, 5 sp manual

If i got that second one down to $5k, and had it resprayed.. i wonder how much it would cost? u reckon about $6.5k ?

6.5K for the Respray alone, or the car and respray in total?

In total I'd guess.

it depends whether u wanna respray the engine bay too..

Thats right^^

colour changes don't come cheap, cause there is so much prep work to do etc etc..

I say to save money, buy one and sand it all back your self. If the prep work is done, then spray should cost you about $1500 for basic black spray job.

$2k will buy you a habbib smash repairs special with extra orange peel...

A good respray will cost upwards of 4-6K.

2k is pretty low if u want a full respray

u could prolly just do exterior for 2k, no door jams, engine bay etc
but why bother, do it properly. or if u want the cheap way out just respray it stock color.

thats what i did, resprayed mine stock silver..

Paul1985

i want it stock colour... and yes i would want all the hinges and engine bay etc done..
"do it once and do it right"

shit.. i wouldnt have expected it to be 4 - 6k.. thats alot.. would it be that price for the stock civic black colour u reckon?

Also, i dont want it done at habbibs with the extra orange peel lolol

mate, the quality you would get on a 2k color change, i think you would be dissapointed. you may get away with an average-good condition re-spray in the same colour as the original. if you are planning a engine swap, my say would re-spray it in whatever it comes in (if it needs it) and put the rest towards motor.

other then that, 5k upwards will get you nicer quality work

Thanks Steer^Gimic
i think from the responses.. id be better to either make do with whatever colour i can find a cheap EG in, or save a little bit more $$$ to buy a stock black EG.

ive gone off the respray idea now :)

i reckon a good ideas is to get resprayed cutom colour but similar to stock..
eg. White > white with pearl
blue > metalicnavy blue or subura blue
red > candy apple red or deep orange

etc..

Get to know some peeps in the industry. They'll charge you $1.5k for a full respray, and they won't even dodge it up for you :p

Ive seen 1-2k Resprays and some of them look mint. Of course a 5k+ job would be garanteed mint but its all upto your willingness to spend and what you will settle for.

I personally.. would settle for a decent 1-2k spray job ... but thats me and what im willing to settle for, for the price. If your the type that will pick out every single minor near invisable fault then a cheap respray is not for you...

Otherwise find one with a nice respray, not saying its impossible but for a 10-13 yr old car... finding a mint condition body for your price will be quite a challange...

ive bought 2 EGs and looked at many more, i can tell you very few are mint ... my 2c..

Paul1985

doesnt have to be mint, i just wanna black one, if i had a respray, id want it done properly. i might just buy a cheap one (hopefully white, second preference) and then later on down the track i might get a respray if im unhappy with it.

while where on that sorta topic.. what were your EG's like SiR JDM, any common problems that seemed to occur with all of them that u personally experienced?

Just wondering if theres a particular thing i should look out for..
btw i mean interior/exterior wise.. not engine as it will be swapped out.

thanks :)

hRmmm of course each case is different ... one of the most comon exterior issues i see is front bars pushed out of shape ... u can see where it joines the gaurds and there the bonnet sits the differences... alot of the time due to a bent radiator support from a minor front end collision or even from hittin a gutter or something too hard.

Dings (as ud expect from 10-13 yr old car) on the doors from shopping centres where another door hits it or similar scenario

Power window motors occasionally are burnt out or on their way out.

Sticky ashtrays :p <-- even my delsol had this .. and a GIANT cone in there

Damaged carpet

like i said each case is different but those mentioned are the ones that are common and reoccuring in most EGs ive seen

Its not so much the price you pay for the respray, its who you get to do it.
Just because your paying 5k doesnt mean your getting a respray that is better than the 2k one. You really need to go to a trusted or well know sprayer, or inspect other work done by them. My brothers skyline got resprayed in 350z blue for $900 thru a tafe, and it is of very good quality.
So price doesnt always affect the quality, you really need to do some research and not just work from word of mouth.

I think black is one of the most expensive flat colours because it shows all the "problems" with the surface. If it’s done on the cheep IE very little prep work it will look poor.
It was cheaper for my friend to get a metallic paint job rather than a black one

since it is your project, have you thought about DIY??

how full is a glass of water?
half empty when it comes to DIY re-spray!
i might settle for a white one...

i wouldnt spend 5k on paint unless id finished everything else i wanted done.. IMO money better spent elsewhere.

sorry to go off topic again, but does anyone know if any of our EG's came with a black dash? i mean black vinyl, and same with the door trims etc? if so.. which ones..

thanks :D

Phamburger

>50% of EG Civic will come with a grey boring dash. If you do find an EG with a black dash, basically mean they have painted the dash themselves. Interior of a EG = very boring.

Paul1985
01-09-2005, 05:55 PM
so u can get the dash properly painted?

shit.. i wouldnt have expected it to be 4 - 6k..

Note that I said 4-6K upwards. Even at $6K I would be highly suspect. If the tradesmen is so good, why is he selling himself short?

The respray on my MG B was close to 8K, and that's with myself doing alot of the prep work.
