CRVTEC if its done properly maybe - but seeing as it isn't standard (ie you spend alot on the parts for it) you could put as much into the B18C and be comperable.

It's anyone's guess - it's not a simple equation.

Ok a B18c Type-R engine makes around 95-102kw ATW if you do a B20B VTEC engine with Type-R cams and intake it will make 109+kw without trying. These figures are from our last dyno day hope this helps.

Dave,

I know you can't really compare dyno readings, but on my EK4 with 2 inch cat back exhaust, and CAI, it did 95kw (from memory) on the CRD dyno.

Which would be about ~80kw max on that dyno id say.

i got 152.6 hp @ wheels in a dyno shootout over here last month :P

to answer the question. The B20 B has superior torque and power over the 18c R.

Use 4th gear for your dyno runs ppl

but 109+ on the CRVTEC is with type R cams and intake tho... so thats money on headwork, if u were to do that on the R motor....

i know the CRVTEC hybrid should cost a fair bit but not according to this
http://www.c-speedracing.com/howto/b20vtec/b20vtec.php

can you guys tell me what these guys have left out. if you do it the way they did it it should be no more than a $100 if you already have the b20 block and head and you do it yourself

yup..and not in shoot out mode either

why not in shootout mode?

why not in shootout mode?

You can run corrections in Shootout mode, but in non-shootout mode, what happens when the same car makes 109kw on a cold day, and 90 on a hot day. I know it is 5% of power very 8 degrees, but for comparitive purposes, you must run in shootout mode.

Anyways, you can run all sorts of corrections in any mode on a DD dyno...

im wondering how much kw would a b20b (no crvtec) engine be?? and if it would be a good idea as a swap?

No they are correct and that is the whole thing with this conversion everyone thinks it costs heaps to do but it does not.But like any engine that you build to make more power it will cost you lots of MONEY.
