I have found a an engine for sale that I'm interested in. The only info I have is it is from a 1992 civic and that it is 16V so obviously DOHC.

I'm assuming this is either an EF or an ED civic Si ZC motor?

I though 1992 was EG but I didn't realise there was a 16V model apart from the B16A which this engine is not. Mind you my knowledge of civics is not great

Can anyone shed some light on this and also how much power does this engine make??

Sweet thanks. Is this the brown top or black top ZC. And can anyone tell me the difference in terms of fitting to a 1st gen CRX which already has a brown top ZC.

Not usually. Most SOHC are 8 valves (2 per cylinder) and have 2 cam lobes per cylinder, one to operate inlet valve and the other to operate exhaust valve.

DOHC on the other hand usually have 16V (4 per cylinder) and two cams, one to operate the 8 inlet valves and the other to operate the 8 exhaust valves.

It is however possible to get an 8V DOHC engine such as the old lotus twin cams.

Really...do you know what engines? I wasn't aware of any 4 cylinder SOHC 16V engines but I certainly don't know every engine in the world.

I stand corrected and surprised.

Anyway so does anyone know if this engine is brown top or black top ZC and if it is black top I've heard it won't be a straight drop in for a car with a brown top engine...Can anyone elaborate on what issues I will come across.

Genuine brown top ZC are very hard to find .

Only from JDM ZC ( japan)

Australia ones are usually black tops.

Get the engine number and we can give you more info.

16 valve civic engines of that year come in SOHC, SOHC VTEC, and DOHC non-VTEC configurations here in Australia.......so its hard to say what engine it is and how much power it makes.

EDIT: They can even be carb, EFI, 1.3L, 1.5L or 1.6L. I'm sure you get the drift now :)

I found what I was lookin for, brown top uses vacuum advance dizzy whereas black top use electronic advance dizzy. DOes this mean the swap would be difficult ie does it require loom and ecu swap? or is there some way of getting around this.
