hi guys,

i got a 1988 ED civic hatch with 1.5 Dual Carb engine.

What are the Pros and Cons by cleaning the Carb?

What i heard was more fuel econ and more power.

I found my car can only run 4xx kms per tank (45L) not city drive and always shift at 3000rpm. Is it normal? i heard some dude did 600kms easy.

How do u make it more fuel economy?

you can buy a carb cleaner. its a simple areosole that you spray into the carbi barrels. unless you want to get it taken apart and cleaned, re-jetted and rebuilt. cant think of any cons doing either. it should be done once every so often.

best thing to do to a dual carb is to remove the top piston covers, clean the pistons and and bores with carby cleaner, make sure the piston moves freely in both the carb and the housing also make sure the seal is ok, then put them back together. all good

I get about 450 on my tank (1990 4th gen hatch) thats using BP ultimate. don't think my cylinders are in the best condition though, changed my spark plugs recently and two of them were covered in oil. would that affect economy drastically?

well it's not about your shift point that increases your economy.
usually fiving 10% of throttle is good for economy constantly
u could be going down a street @ 70km/h on 5th gear. 2000rpm
if u give it constant light throttle it'll eat less fuel than full throttling @ the same situation

reason for this is due to the ECU detecting the sudden increase of acceleration.
it'll throw in more fuel and create more power..
but since your in 5th gear. your revs will not increase..
