Id say so. But it will be a budget 1997 model, probly better of spending a few more thousand and getting a better cared for model.

Hi Raff,
I've seen a 5th Vti-R Prelude here in NSW at a dealer mind you for $15 999. The downside, as mentioned before, was the KMs travelled. The car had 155, 000 KMs and the gearbox seems to be in pretty rough condition. I believe its possible, just takes time. For peace of mind, just spend that little bit extra for a nice example.
cheers guys
thanx for the feedback

But hey, a friend of mine bought his for around 16k and its running pretty damn gd. High Km's dont always mean its crap, Honda built their engine to last for a long time anywayz.

Preludes don't have that bad a clutch.. i changed my last preludes @ 200k (after the bloke @ Honda stuffed mine up). but with my 5Gen, I haven't had any problems (@ 135k)
Insurance.. well buy any sort of sports car and you'll be paying larger insurance.. my first prelude cost me 2.5k in insurance (even thru my old man)
now 4 years later im still paying 1.4k (AAMi won't touch me even @ 25)
Rego... fact of life
Tyres.. if you bargain well (privately) then get the price reduced.. or from a dealer.. tell them to pull the finger out (if it needs tyres.. is it road worthy then?) same with services..
You can't expect to buy a prelude for 17k and not pay anything..
Basically. bargain = some extra money to spend
Thats the honest truth.
But the sad fact for us owners is that the prices have dropped (i paid 25k for mine 3 years ago) so you should be able to get for sub 20k and be picky about it.. i take it your from vic.. i'm sure there are plenty of decent priced cars.

Hey you should be able to get a decent one for 16gs. I sold mine for $16.5k. I've listed the specs if it's anything to go off.
1997 Vti-R
120,000kms
Interior was in excellent condition
Exterior was in good condition.
So to answer your question...Yes you should be able to get one for 16k.

There was a burgandy 5th Gen for sale on the old PA forums. It was posted again of the new PA under the "Spotted a Prelude" section. It went up on ebay at 10k and no one bid for it. It has 187,000kms....but it was manual and a VTi-R. Seems like the guy is willing to take a very low price for it.
