you may have clipped a wrong wire, or hooked some wrong wires up. Best bet is to check the wiring behind the head unit. Or if you can be stuffed, follow the wiring from the interior lights back to their source to locate the problem. You probably just pulled some wires out while u were muckin around puttin it in.

first things first...
check the dimmer.. u know how u can make em brighter and less brighter...

last thing u want is to search all over the place checking fuses, wires etc when it could be something so simple.

sounds really similar to a problem I had on my EK Civic (funny enuf it was a sony HU too)
My dash lights weren't turning on after I relocated my Headunit.
I was getting bad ground from the HU harness and causing a short circuit somewhere.
Check the interior fuses (under the steering columb) for a blown fuse.

How old is the car?
I did an install in my mate's 92 Magna ages ago (back when I didn't quite know what I was doing) and I accidentally hooked up the ACC and Permanent Power the wrong way round. Somehow (the auto-sparky that fixed its said it was because the wiring was old and corroded) this shorted out the wiring for the dash lights without blowing any fuses. It was ultimately not a problem with the HU wiring but with old wiring in the car.. not that cheap to fix either.

I think interior lights and the tail lights are on the same fuse

turn your lights on and see if your rear lights come on,

if they dont - its gotta be your fuse
if they do - :thumbdwn: see if your damaged any wires in there

the dimmer switch has no effect. as in i flick it anywhere and there is no lights.
i'll check the grounding and other wires

any other suggestions?

mostly be fuses...check both...the fuse box in ur car and the fuse box in ur engine room...proper check..not jus lookin at it.....or in a more serious case....ur switch is blew..

i once had a similar problem when i accidently connected constant power to the light wire when installing a deck at night...every time i tried turing on the headlights, the dash lights wouldnt come on. Try unplugging ur h/u and testing the lights then...

ok guys
fuses are all good, wiring is checked.
but there are 2 wires that give out 12V power when the parkers are switched on. 1 of them should be for a dimmer but what can the other one be for? do they need to be connected to something?
this is from a FORD

thanks guys
