ive heard of various different bolt-on turbo kits, so in your opinion what is the best value for money one for a civic, and also the best quality one.

also, the pro's and cons of a bolt on kit, as opposed to an individually bought system (in a small street application)

What sort of civic do you have? This is a nice kit for the EG VTi (SOHC -VTEC), you can get them for around 2000-3000 shipped here.

Set at 5psi from factory.

I have been thinking about getting one for ages ...

from all the talking I have done to many people ... I am told that these 'kits' are good ... as long as you are happy with the power they provide and that's it. Nothing more.

Problem is ... other people who already went down this road tell me that once you taste boost, you will want one thing... MORE!

And here lies the problem with these kits ... they are not very upgradable (I am told) ... so if you buy one ... be happy with 5-7 psi. Full stop.

You want more ... be willing to spend more for a custom kit, plus working your internals.

But if you are happy with a little boost upgrade and the wooot-dshhhhh sound ... these kits work well.

Not true. The td04-15g is good for around 250hp, or 12-13psi before its started getting way out of its efficency range. With the a good fuel system and cooler u can run ~10psi daily.

the geddy kit isnt exactly a hi HP kit, but in the real world, unless uv got internals, it will be enough to throw a rod or 2.

You internals dont care about size of the charger, of how efficent ur manifold is, how big ur cooler is, they will traditionally have a peak Hp range before they visit the road below you. U can go ss equal length race manifold, dump ur a/c & ps, 3" from turbo back, radcore motec or hondata, ball bearing gt28 but ur rods wont know the difference.

So yes, pick your setup carefully, set your goals and set a budget. Look around forums, see whats worked for oither people, and what hasnt for others.

Regarding the importing of kits, our dollar is pretty good atm, and i'm sure you could easily pull ina greddy kit for low 2000's landed.

I was told that it'd cost around about 1000-1500 bucks for a install ... could be wrong cause I've never had one done ... (that's what I got told when I asked)

sounds about right darkcoupe.

The thing is, id rather much peice a custom kit myself. In fact, ive peiced a few together myself now and they would kill any of the "kits" on the market.

I also agree with Weq, doesnt matter what u spend on the kit itself, rest assured that in a honda, the limiting factor is the engine and not the turbo kit.

one of my mates who we customed a DIY kit for, ran a 13.5 on street tyres (ek hb). The thing is, if he were to turn up more power, the engine would be in trouble so he knows that unless he is up for a rebuild, to leave the boost alone. His kit altogether cost him 5k, and the kit can easily make 300whp wihtout any trouble, the engine, and id dare say any honda engine in the b series couldnt make those powers withouta rebuild.

Well if you have some basic knowledge on cars you might be able to do it yourself. If not then I'm just guessing 700-1500 installed??
Brake upgrade is a different story. I will be upgrading my rear barkes to discs in a little while and the whole swap (rear) will cost around 700-1000, then you can most likely install it yourself. Have a look on a few US sites like these.

Why do u need brake pad upgrades etc?

I think he meant "whole brake upgrade??" I think thats a very safe, reasonable thing to do when you get a fair bit more power in your car aye?
