hey everyone,

just a little about me:
-im from melbourne (east subz)
-i also own a my05 wrx (turboback, ecu, intake, debadged and rice stickers :P)

i just purchased an eg gli civic 94 model yesterday coz of the rising fuel prices so i cant really afford to use the rex as a daily driver no more....

just a few questions about civics cos im new to da world of NA cars.....does my model have VTEC?
also im putting a DIFF-BACK exhaust on it tommorow mainly cos of the sound as diffbacks dont make any difference to performance....u guyz know of any reputable n cheap garages in MELB?

also have any of yous seen the jetspeed kits for eg civics, they look pretty hot...

im also gonna debadge the "civic gli" sticker thingi on the back to make it look abit smoother. :)

nice to meet u all!

your car does not have vtec, and the exhaust your getting is called axel back. is your car fuel injected or carby?

IDRAG

lolz soz, as i sed im new to the world of NAs but on turbos theyre called "diffbacks" but who carez same shit.....so do u actually have any recommendations on good HONDA CIVIC exhaust shops? I got the exhaust of my rexxy done @ rowville exhaust but that place specialises in wrx's.....

yeh the car is the fuel injected model :)

lol... ok then
if you do a little searching in these forums somtimes people sell 2nd hand exhausts and headers, i just sold my axel back last week!
also if you look in the tread TECHNICAL, you can ask the same question about exhaust shops!

hehe nahh sick of turbos...i might consider a engine swap when i have enough $$$ though....i really want da VTEC :P

hey bydaway, type one - have u done anythin to ur ride yet? dumped? zorst? kit? lol cant really do nethin to the engine if u have a 1.5 non-vtec like me...I'm jus gonna do cosmetic mods to my civic at the moment..

1.5 ???? omg thats shit....i thought it was just 1.6 but wit no vtec.....LOL guess i cant really get any potential outta it even with heavy mods....

i get 175kw ATW in my rexxy with a 3inch turboback running high flow cat, unichip, CAI and thats with a conservative tune.....expectin around 50KW ATW in the civic? lolz

p.s. sound of the vtec is awesome gets me all fuzzzzy inside

mate i get only 300-350kms on a 60 ltr tank in my wrx, also it uses premium and at the prices these days, nearly $1.50/ltr i think its a smart investment :P

also i didnt think u hav understood me in terms of modding.....i said i would do an engine conversion IF i had the money, for now i am just gettin a AXLEBACK lol and mayb a kit (these 2 will cost roughly $1.5k, the kit includin fitting n painting - correct me if im wrong)

Also considering my WRX's insurance was roughly $4500 comprehensive per year....and the civic will only be a few hundred bux, i think i have made a smart choice :D

hey paulosportz, i see a front mount on ur civic - turbo huh? newayz, how much KWATW? how much boost u runnin? 1/4 mile time? im pretty interested n da carbon fibre bonnet lookz hot!

paulosportz
11-09-2005, 09:17 PM
yeah i get about 350 full tank on my car too.

its only about $20 extra per week but i dont think ill purchase another car cause of these gay fuel prices.

6psi: 100atw
10psi: 122atw
1/4time: not yet
bonnet: not CF, its stockie painted black

What a funny guy. Last time I checked, $6000 ( or however much your EG cost ) certainly buys a few years worth of petrol. But of course, everyone is free to do what they want.

lol geez, wasn't really having a go but pointing out the flaws in your logic.
But that's ok, I wont get upset at you calling me dumb, because when I purchase a car, I check to see if it has VTEC first.

lolz sorry teek as i said im not a honda expert as i just arrived from the world of turbo carz but all up after purchasing the honda i will be saving quite alot (4500 insurance per yr + 70 bux petrol per week) u do the maths

moving on..yeh man 4500 for comprehensive - its around that price for all jap turbo cars - R33s, soarers, WRXs etc and also if u have modded the car the premium goes up too...also im only 19...

insurance is always a bitch i guess! but yeah, shop around. 4k+ is abit too much man.

u could surely save 1-2k by asking around.
i reckon it would be more expensive to run two cars dude

2x rego costs
2x insraunce costs

IDRAG
11-09-2005, 09:55 PM
na bro, when i get comprehensive for the civic ima switch da rex to 3rd party..rego is nutin only a few hundred a yr...i can pay for the rego by working for like 1 week...no biggie

asiansquad
11-09-2005, 09:56 PM
should just keep the money and not have bought the eg and dont spend money on it

u can put those money towards ur rex

btw...got any pics of ur rex?

IDRAG
11-09-2005, 09:59 PM
lol keep da money for the rex...bad idea bro, alredy spent like 3k on it and the parts for it are way more expensive than the civic.

for the time being, the only thing i will do to the civic is a diffback which will cost roughly 300, when i hav enough $$$ i will spend all the money making the civic look good (no engine mods) coz the rex satisfies me in that area :P

by the way all melb guys u eva go on any MCCR cruises?

SiReal
11-09-2005, 10:00 PM
been on one cruise but that was years ago. ...yep save ur money! why not make ur civic just a stock cheap daily driver? and perhaps give it a nice stealth sound system.? i mean, ur driving expereince will improve greatly with nice sound, as oposed to droaning exhaust sound

asiansquad
11-09-2005, 10:01 PM
my 2cents would be..keep the 300 and the money on the kit and other stuffs..and spend it towards petrol.

u'll be paying alot more when u mod 2 cars

i get 175kw ATW in my rexxy with a 3inch turboback running high flow cat, unichip, CAI and thats with a conservative tune.....expectin around 50KW ATW in the civic? lolz

wow, is that all you get from a turbo wrx??? i get over 150kw at the fly on my 1.6!
but i guess it's the torque that your engine makes, which would be about 350nm??

IDRAG
12-09-2005, 12:01 AM
yeh conservative tune though..anythin over 200kwatw and i will need to get a heavy duty clutch cos the clutch is the wrx's weak point.

150 kw @ fly is like 110 kwatw? also it depends what dyno ur usin, i got mine done @ AVO which isnt a "happy dyno" so to speak

p.s. 175atwkw @ 14psi or rougly 220kw @ fly

uhhh i will try and find my dyno graph, but torque has increased alot from stock..turbo kicks in at around 2.5k rpm and maxxes @ about 370nM

i just purchased an eg gli civic 94 model yesterday coz of the rising fuel prices so i cant really afford to use the rex as a daily driver no more....

hehe, that doesnt sound right. You have the money/finance to buy a 05 rex but you dont have the money for fuel? should of sold your wrx and got a fast sports car which doesnt use as much fuel as wrx... eg. type r or even type s

IDRAG
12-09-2005, 12:10 AM
type R? no thnx, apart from the vtec F1 sound theyre nutin compared to a turbo in terms of straight line acceleration....but handling is better around the twisties? anyhow yeh i shouldve planned my finances better in regards to fuel, maintenance, insurance etc...who cares - got my civic now so its the daily driver no worries bout the fuel or insurance!

You know its funny how you said by purchasing the civic you would save on insurance costs plus petrol costs.

However, if you kept the rex, how would you drive it? Uninsured? Plus if it were you weekend driver, you would have to pay petrol for it still. Yes you're saving a little compared to having the rex as your daily driver.

Also you're not taking into account depreciation. By keeping the rex, you're basically throwing money out the window.

Personally, why dont you have a good car - balance between economy and performance - say a civic/integra vti-r/type-R. Sell the rex and civic, invest in shares or start saving for a place to live (if you live with at home still).

Not trying to tell you what to do, but if you're concerned about fuel prices and $$$, it seems like a good way to go.

You could even buy a hybrid car!

I think what IDRAG did in some way is a pretty wise movement, even tho it’s debatable. He can buy third party for his rex which won’t cost him a lot (however he is risking a bit tho), and by driving the car only on the weekends, it will generally be kept in a better condition than a daily driver, the K would also be heaps lower. So it will have a better resale value in the future. And he won’t get bored of his rexy so easily; weekends would more exciting to look forward to.
