ticking noise wen reving

hey guys i went to look at a CRX this arvo with a mate his keen on the car but one thing is worrying him... the motor is the B16A2 when we were reving the car it was making a ticking noise its not constant is here and there.... and it sounded like it was coming from the top end... car hasnt been serviced for 10,000km and there is a oil leak but thats just a sick me saw

might be not enough oil leak if there is a oil leak.. did u check the dip stick??

nah i didnt car was on wen we got there so there was no point taking it out and it hasnt been started for a couple of months

More info is needed...soudsn like gunk/oil buildup in head after long time-no-start - so valve adjustment is needed - IMO , change the oil + filter with fresh OEM or other oil and check spark plugs etc -

The ticking and oil leak could be unrelated problems. Ticking from the engine bay, as you will discover in many other posts, is more often than not the tappets requiring an adjustment.

A leak can be so many things and can take minimal work/cost or on the other hand, quite a lot, to fix. If you could find the exact location of the leak, you might learn more. Could be a bung gasket or something?

your best bet would be to take it to a racq inpection and they will be bale to tell you what it is. well worth the money when buying a used car.

I gotta agree with ECUMAN it sounds like engine pinging.
Does it only happen when you have your foot down?
