Hey all, i have recently completed a engine swap in my CRX. I chucked in a B18c VTiR. My only problem so far is that the ecu wont hold the error code in its memory. As in the tut about checking for codes the car has to be off befor you run the diognostic test, mine i have wait till the car picks up the code then with the car still running check the code. i get a code 71 which doesnt bother me but i wanna know if anyone knows how i can make the ecu hold its code memory.

u need to make sure it has a constant 12V power supply when the ignition is OFF

Hmm I see a few problems here, code 71 is Cylinder 1 Misfire or a Random Misfire
a condition is present that is creating a cylinder misfire although my technical information relates this code directly for Accord Civic CRV CRX Del Sol Odyssey Prelude 96-98 96-98 97-98 n/a 96-97 96-98 96-98 but the code should stand true for your b18 engine. My guess is your VTIr engine is post 1996 yeah ?

This code thow shouldn’t be ignored, for some reason your either misfiring cylinder no1 due to a faulty distributor, or sensor pickup, or injector, I don’t recommend band aid fixing this problem by providing the ECU with constant power.. I suggest you investigate and solve the problem directly and specially.

How ever if you want to still provide your ECU with constant power D1 is constant power for 1990-96 wiring and pin A24 on obd2a (1996 to 1999)

Hope that helps

this is why he wants the constant 12V to the ecu, so that he can diagnose the problem properly.

BTW James, Honda's ALWAYS run a constant 12V to the ECU from factory.
They do this to keep memory of CEL's and O2 trims.

yeah i know that ;) constant power is pin D1 or A24 like mentioned above ;-)
remember we had that debate a long time ago ;-) via msn i think.. lol

i re checked the error code.. it was 17.... lol...
sorry guys... i now know that problem is the speed sensor .. guess ill have to put the integra dash in after all....
thanks a million for the help with the ecu memory.. really helped out

speed sensor problem typically isn’t in the dash, its in the sensor which is on the gear box, check the sensor and the wiring to the ECU from the sensor and make sure everything is correct, if you need any help let me know.

hmmm, 2nd gen CRX VSS is in the cluster,
3rd gen del sol its on the gearbox

Yeah but he's running a 96 + engine with a 96+ ecu thus it should be on the box.

yeah, but his car sounds like a gen two CRX,

maybe he is still running a old mech. VSS style gearbox?

who knows, but VSS is not too hard to sort out...
