Hey guys, just a quick question, does anyones CRV drive alot of petrol?

lately my parents 1997 CRV i drinkiing so much, no air con, no thrashing. just normal driving.

back then i would pour a full tank and drive to the city and back my it will indicate me having more then half a tank, now days, when i pour a full tank, saying driving from parra to carlingford, which is like 20 mins, and back, kills almost half a tank?

is this a problem, or is it just the CR-V is getting old and dying now?

ALSO! the CR-V does a mad SCREEEECH noise for a good 2 seconds when i start the car early in the morning, any problems?

thanks
dave

My missus gets 500-550km per tank on our 2001 CRV sports.

But I get around 480km-520km per tank if I drive!

My in-laws have the current model and they're getting some bad consumption rates; 350km!!! Now that's pretty bad.

Might be that you need to get your mechanic to have a thorough inspection during your next service. But then again, hope your fuel needle isn't bungy.

check out your air cleaner, spark plugs and tappets.

these things contribute to poor economy if worn or misadjusted.

I have a 99 CRV Sports and the consumption is pretty bad too. I'm getting about 80KM per 10L. Full tank only takes me about 400KMs.

The 2003 2.4L CRVs are even worse. My colleague's CRV gives him only 340-400km of city driving before the light comes on.

My 97 CRV manual still does around 10L/100km.....that's half city half freeway...running high tyre pressure and only half tank of petrol all the time....

my 2005 crv sport auto is fine

i get around 450km with about 10% left in the tank

and this is even with the occasional thrashing

air filter/ fuel filter / spark plugs / oil change etc as said before -

also the "screech" is a belt slipping - either airconditioning or power steering or alternator belt due to moisture i think ?!

I have an 02 CRV Sport Auto and I get about 360kms before the light comes on. Then I can drive till about 500kms before its really empty.

maybe we've never noticed how often we fill up, only now because it's so FRIKIN expensive
i get aabout 480 km out of three-quarters tank, then i fill up. 98 model
it's better to empty out everything from the car if possible, everything makes a difference. plus, get a soft spare cover.

isnt it bad for the car to drain the fuel all the time? It draws crap from the bottom of your tank into the engine which is no good.

Isn't the fuel outlet from the tank at the bottom anyway? So when full or empty, it still takes fuel from the bottom, which is where the heavier gunk is anyway.

i get bout 550 on a full tank i think thats normal on an auto 97cr-v! I know though servicing on the crv makes a hell of a lot bigger difference on mileage than it does on my civic!

used to drive an auto 2003 crv, with the current fuel prices, i'll think twice of driving anything more than a 2L engine

My 99 CR-V manual used to get 580kms out of every tank..Integra i have now gets about 500 out of tank..but if you really want fuel economy out of a non hybrid/diesel engine try a 5.7litre Commodore..the last manual one i had got a best of 980kms on one tank..all freeway driving..hmmm only wish my current 6.3litre commodore could get that..oh well 307 rwkw and 600ft-lb does that..

What Bakman means by "emptying out everything from the car" is taking out the heavy stuff, not using up all the fuel.Well that's how I read it anyway.
