Hi guys.. I've got a 2000 model prelude VTiR.. I have little knowledge about modification.. I have heard from a friend that by changing the air filter you can achieve great sound from engine (air sucking sound rather)..
Anyone know where I can buy this kind of air filter?
Also I've seen one 5 Gen prelude with really white head lights. Just wondering where I can get those bulbs as well.. Thanks..

2000 model VTiR, ur mate was prob talkin about a CAI (cold air intake). i doubt by just replacing the stock air filter to a new own will make that noise ur mate is referring to. a pod filter/cold air intake will give u a deep throaty sound.
check out ebay. theres a few CAI's for preludes, incl. aem and injen
it could be that the 5th gen u saw had HID's. its either that guy had HID conversions or replaced the bulbs to something like PHILIPS DIAMOND VISIONS. again, basically up to u how much u wanna pay. for HID kits, it can start from 300 bucks or so to replace the whole headlight and to convert ur lights from halogen to HID (high intensity gas discharge). if u just want to keep the halogens, u can get HID "style" halogen bulbs such as the diamond/crystal visions. 2000 ludes have H1 bulbs for both high beam and low beam. Autobarn sells these. you might wanna check out traders section too.
Also, if u want to change ur lights to HID, again, trader section.

stephen8512, thank you very much. You answered all my question and it is really helpful. Really appreciate your help. Cheers...
Yep, u wont get much induction noise just from changing the panel filter...Most likely get a SRI or a CAI if ur lookin for induction noise.
mine doesnt have that kind of noise....it has a blitz filter with xustom pipe...may be a K&N filter works better.
you can get a H1 style HID for around 300

OR you could get K&N panel filter, which i reckon is better, saves you from warrying about defect.
I have HID on mine and they are pretty white, the kit prob set you back around $300-$500 depends on the manuafacturer

hey i just wanted to ask..
does a pod and panel have a big difference to it?
and if so, how big of a difference is it?
Minimal performance if any. Mainly change in 'noise'
only help your engine breath better, looks better, small gain, but its the cheapest mod you can make..
pod only works well on turbocharged cars.

yeah u will need a pod filter of some type.. perhaps pay for a lil quality or something.. like an apexi pod filter...
either HID or crystal visions.. perhaps Polargs that Hondar is sellin on these forums too.. will be right for you ;)

ah thanks ..
oh and with the bulbs.. just confirming, for a 5th gen lude, would i be looking for H1's for headlights?..
and are they the same as the high beam bulbs?. . like, would they both fit in each others spot? lol.
// sorry if it may seem like a dumb question..
/ im still learning.. lol

H1 headlights for both high beams and ur normal headlights
i think they use 2 separate bulbs......
if they do, they both use H1's im 100% sure

man ..
just chucking on a pod filter will get that induction noise... thats all u need.. .. sif replace with panel filter..

I've found that quite alot of the induction noise is muffled down by a resonator that sits within the driver side guard and attaches to the bottom of the air box. CAI's and pods always result in the removal of this resonator which is one of the reasons that they produce so much induction noise. Myself I removed the resonator from the bottom of my stock air box. Performance gains are very minimal at best, you may find that without the restriction of the resonator that it will breathe a little better at high rpms. You will however experience a louder induction noise that before! Its a nice balance especially if you have a loud exhaust because it wont be just exhaust noise but a nicer revving sound.
n e ways my 2 cents.

man ..
just chucking on a pod filter will get that induction noise... thats all u need.. .. sif replace with panel filter..
// does that mean i shouldnt really get a panel for the car?..
because it doesnt really do too much / make more induction noise?

Ancient bump - i searched :)
Anyone know how the cutoff is like for the 5th gen ludes? I'm considering getting a set of HID's if the ludes are decent at controlling glare

Absolutely horrible im afraid. I could stretch this post out to a paragraph but in the end, its not worth it.
Options include retrofit projectors or ebay headlights.
In case anyone was wondering, removing the intake resonator frees up a ton of noise in the intake.

ah bummer, that's a shame. My FD managed to do them quite well once i aimed them properly - they're designed to take HID's in other countries..
Where's the resonator? My car has a 'JDM' intake arm which is a bit fatter... will that get in the way?
edit: oh wow i replied within 2 mins..

http://www.ntpog.org/mods/fifth-intake/resonator.shtml
shows how to take out your resonator, however it might be easier to remove your front bumper if u are familiar with it.
an like what gums said unless you get projectors i highly suggest not using a hid kit cause your gonna blind people and they are gonna get very angry :(

The best way by far is to remove the bumper. You will see the snail like box on the drivers side near the wheel well. You will need to get into some deep bolts.
I used the ntpog.org for info on what to do with the butterfly control box and the associated vacuum lines (it has vacuum lines to activate a butterfly thing inside the resonator).

Fark, that's intense. Might give it a shot later. Thanks for the links guys :)
We should compile a thread full of prelude mods...

Nothing wrong with having more Preludes on Ozhonda though.
I put chucked a K&N Pod filter on my teg the other day. It alone sounds mad when it sucks in the air and has made the engine sound way more beefy.

try an american made aem v2 whale penis pod filter for the prelude sounds offf it like good off it (y)

They are pretty good, just not very good for bang for buck.
I dont have many bucks lol.
Also, its not bad to have preludes here but its just a little futile when there is soo much more information of PA.
This place is more of Honda social place for preludes drivers. And even then, for some reason we dont get along spectacularly with other Honda drivers. In general of course.
Something that goes with having one of Honda's less popular cars I guess.
Its too bad that all these douches go along to your cruises, crash into shit and give the rest of the prelude scene a bad name.

haha, preludes are way more awesome. Not as fast, but more 'sports car' compared to the other econoboxes. Just not as hardcore as the DC2R's

So I installed my K&N panel filter and the differences are nice.
For one the induction is a little bit louder.
Secondly I get this extra noise when I prod the accelerator for a downshift. Its like a little snarl just as I push it. Im happy.

Yeah I just made the switch to a k&n panel as well, sounds nice. Fuel economy has gone up but this is also due to no longer having a clogged filter. For $60 from the states they're a good deal considering that a replacement oem can cost $70 and cant be cleaned often and for free :) Also no worries about heatsoak or defect notices.

I was under the impression that OEM paper ones arent meant to be cleaned. They certainly filter the air better than K&Ns, due to their paper weave that gets finer and finer. Washing would damage it I would assume.
My usage went up the first tank but that was because I liked the sound so much that I couldnt stop pushing the accelerator :P
Its gone back to normal though, good old mid to low 8's L/100kms

No they can't (rather than pulling the bugs and leaves off lol), I just meant that the K&N filters CAN be cleaned often, in contrast.
I'd imagine if you soaked the stock filter the pores would all clog up and you'd be a lot worse off. $75 for a stock air filter replacement at my local supercheap!
Yep I'm getting the same on my 98 manual Si. I'm not using ethanol fuel but am crancking aircon!
Did you notice any change in responsiveness when you removed the resonator? Loss or gain? My old integra had it removed and sounded so sweet, beats exhaust noise.
