offset for the cd5 is +42.

Yeah nugget is right. 205 is the width, 40 is the profile of the tyre. With those dimensions you are obviously going to a 17" wheel.

You have to make sure the stud pattern is 4x114.3 and an offset in the mid 40's would be ideal.

well his stud pattern is 4x100, unsure about the offset, would that fit?

4x100 wheels won't fit an accord.

Sounds like the wheels were on a civic or integra?

They would need to be multi stud but doesn't sound like it.

Offset depends on the width of the wheel you're putting on: you'll need a different offset for a 6.5 inch wheel compared to an 8 inch wide wheel.

Changing the diameter of the wheel (15, 16, 17 inch) will affect the profile of the tyre. The profile is actually a percentage of the width: 205 is the width of the tyre in milimetres and 40 is the percentage of the sidewall compared to the width (i.e. 205 x 40% = 82 mm sidewall). If you put on a wider tyre, you'll need a lower profile tyre to maintain the same overall diameter.

Talk to a wheel and tyre professional: they know what's safe and legal.
