hi,
i am a new member to this forum, i am looking for a 2003 VTi or VTiS in VIC. i've got a few questions that i think you jazz owners can help to answer, thanks in advance!
1. is there any different in the suspension set up between VTi and VTis (and also GLi)?
2. loading space, how is the loading space compared to a 2000+ Civic Vi Hatch? because i do load my car up with lots of things all the time, so i do need a flexible and roomy loading space, i know the Jazz has got excellent seating arrangments for loading large items, but what about the Civic hatch? it is still a larger car
3. is it worth the extra 2~3k to get a VTi or VTiS over the base GLi? apart from the engine difference, is there any major changes in the VTi over the GLi? is there a "push in the back" feel in the 1.5L model? i've test driven the 1.3L, and it is too slow for my liking.
4. how low is the VTiS body kit? any chance of scraping the front bar on speed bumps and drive way when loaded with things?
5. the durability of the clutch?
thanks a lot!

1) All the same suspension.
2) More usable space and easier access. Don't forget the magic seats.
3) Test drive the 1.5 to see if it satisfies. For me the price difference from GLi to VTi for the better engine is worth it but can't justify the extra cost on top just for the VTiS body kit and spot lights.
4) Not that low with stock suspension. Its not like a modified car, its still got to be legal.
5) Like any clutch depends how you drive. If you ride the clutch you'll burn out any clutch. With CVT you have nothing to worry about but then I sit in Sydney traffic when a manual would spend far more time with the clutch pushed in than out. Its not like the manual saves any fuel.
The Civic is about to be replaced so they will be doing deals on the old model soon I'd suspect. With a new model 2nd hand prices will also come down a bit.

The kit is not particularly very low, it's about the same height as the VTi. In fact, i know it's higher than the Civic Gli ES. But i would be careful when going into driveaways. I've already scrapped mine pretty hard because i drove in too fast. However, i could only notice the scraping if i kneel and look under. Otherwise, you'll just notice it as small water marks.

What is that suppose to mean? Laughing at us again? I dun think that is necessary...

thanks for your responses!
so basically there is no difference in handling between GLi, VTi and VTiS? (apart from the weight difference of the 1.5L) and the VTi should go harder/handle better than VTis because it is lighter and less aero drag?
so the VTi is the more sensible choice... it seems... :D
so blardy hard to find a good deal on VTi here in VIC, it makes me cry every time i look at the prices of Jazz in other states on the net........

Correct!
In fact there is very few Hondas (nearly none when stock) that will give you that feeling thats why i was laughing.

They still wont really push you back. Depends what you mean by push you back in your seat, yes a S2000 and a Type S will push you back, so will my vtir teg (slightly). But diferent people people have diferent defintions of "push you back in your seat". I mean, i've been in and driven a VT HSV Clubsport, R34 GTR, and an EVO 5. They push you back in your seat.
I've also driven a vtis Jazz and they definately dont push you into your seat at all. But hey i knew a guy who thourght his mitsubishi Mirage will push you into your seat.

I was told by a honda salesperson when i was looking at a new civic or jazz that interior volume of the jazz was actually greater than the civic. I dont know if this is true though.

The 1.5 definately gives more of a push than the 1.3. They're very different to drive power wise.

thx for the answers, one question remains unanswers:
- do all three models (Gli/VTi/VTiS) handle the same? (apart from marginal difference due to weight)
and a new Q:
what is the redline and cut off threshold in the 1.5L vtec engine? i drove the 1.3L, it is onl a bit over 6K, pretty low for a honda engine?

I'm pretty sure all models have identical suspension. I never noticed a difference between their "ride". In fact the 05 model gli i drove the other day actually had firmer suspension than my 03 vti - but I'm pretty sure that would have been new car vs 2 year old car thing, not a difference in suspension.
re the redline, i think in vti's its 6,300 which as you say is short for a honda. I'm pretty sure the reason for this is that the 1.5 is a long stroke engine, meaning it has characteristics of being high torque but a lower ability to rev.

my apology felix.. sorry .. I misunderstood... I thought you are going to be one of them who laugh at Jazz as a slow car.. oh well, nobody said Jazz is a fast car anyway..
I've sat on a BMW 325 (or isit 330) before.. and have that kick back feel when the driver accelerate...

i think i will go for the VTi, unless a VTiS comes up with a very good price, what annoys me the most is that the 2nd hand Jazz market is pretty much dead, especially for private sales, 90% of the cars are from the dealers, and i hate going to dealers, cos they just keep pushing on and on... and the overall 2nd hand prices of the Jazz are even more than comparable (age/kms) 7th gen Civics?

You might find for 1-2K more you can buy new.
I think the reason so many are for sale at dealers 2nd hand is most people just trade them in for the sheer convenience. For the extra thousand or so you get doing a private sale it isn't worth putting up with all the tyre kickers crap.
