Gear box rattling noise!!!

Has anyone overcome this situation?
When im engaged in 1st gear going up slow on a steep slope or uphill, my gear box makes realli loud rattling noise, sounds like metal clicking or some sort. And it also feel very slow even if i put down my foot a fair bit to try to climb the slope, my gearbox just makes rattling noise. I'd neva had this problem, but only just recently... any idea what had caused this noise?

are you sure it's the gearbox? sounds like engine knocking to me... but if it's not then i have no idea :)

Sounds like a gearbox 'layshaft' bearing or possibly final drive bearing... Have you got gearbox oil in it?? Might be worth having it checked for fluid leaks.

Could also be an engine mount or CV joint but from what you describe, I would suggest getting a reputable mechanic to look at it

does ur car have lsd?
does it happen only in 1st gear or does it happen just normal driving?

I do have LSD... it generally happens in 1st gear when trying to move off from a steep slope. This only happened in da last 2 days... the only thing i could think of that has been changed was my cam timing/ignition timing. If it is really engine knocking, is it safe to drive as long as i avoid steep hill/slope?
cuz during the rest of my driving, it doesnt have the rattling noise.

i sometime get rattling noise wen i chuck into reverse n let the clutch go, but its ok if i chuk it in n here it click..

my brother had the same noise when driving normally. it was the lsd that broke
