Hi all,
I think my thrust or inner bearing in the eg gearbox is on the way out does anyone know good places to go to that dont charge too much i was thinking of going to chasers in west melb pref around west area of melb. How much would it cost to fix as i hear the parts are cheap but labor is whats costs heaps?

Input shaft bearing? Thrust bearing = outside the gearbox.

yeah its one of them was thinking of doing them both since the gearbox may be out anyway. When i take my foot of the clutch you can hear the noise and a slight whine on downshifting and at low revs.

Curious for those that know - is there anyway of doing this work (or any work on a gearbox) without pulling the engine or is taking the engine and gearbox out the only way to do it?

Nah i think you have to take all axels and all that off then gearbox because the input shaft bearing is inside the box..thats what ive been told.

You have to take the gearbox out to change the ISB and thrust bearing. Might as well change the thrust bearing if it hasn't been change in awhile.
Have a read of this (http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12789&highlight=input+shaft) on how to change it.

Thanks for the info. Wyn. Interesting to note that you can remove the gearbox without pulling the engine.
yeah there's NO way to replace bearrings while g-box stays in the car HAHAH..
the G-Box can come off the motor while the motor is in the car as Wyn said.
the big cost here for you is the labour to remove the gearbox and open it up to replace the bearings.
IMO you should consider upgrading the clutch and perhaps replacing ALL bearings in the g-box at the same time.. you'll basically just be paying extra for parts ;)

cheapest ive found is $200 to remove and replace the gearbox. Average cost is $320.
Thats a starting figure
that's more than reasonable !! cost me $330 for clutch and bearring install..
dont forget to factor in Tranny fluid also ;)

You know how many bearings here are in the gearbox ? I can think of at least 5 off the top of my head. Just the ISB is around $40-50 itself so it will be an expensive affair ;)
Inspect which bearing need replacing and replace them (giving it a simple spin will tell you if it needs to be changed or not).
