hey all, so my speedo intermittently becomes erratic, jumping all over the place when i'm driving along and after looking around i think it may be my vss. I have an auto 92 eg sedan, so i was wodering if anyone knows whether or not the auto trans on this model uses an output from the vss to perform the gear changes (ie: if the sensor dies completely then the tranny won't work at all), or if it has no affect on gear changes, in which case i can just guesstimate my speed from my revs until i get it fixed.

the VSS works off the differential to give a speed readout ( that is , the speed of your driveshafts/wheels = road speed) so if it is failign then it would probably give the symptons you describe. Check the VSS is properly connected - maybe it is alittle loose and the engine vibrations are bumping the connection all over the place.
AFAIK , IF the sensor dies completly it is possible your transmission could have problems as the auto no doubt uses this readout for relelvant gearchanging ? (correct me if wrong !)

typically this is the working behind the speedo, hondas are very known for it.
If u know how a speedo works, its usually the spring in the mechanism that goes. Rather easy to do yourself depending on what model it is.
