hey guys,
im looking at getting an exhaust system for my crx delsol vtec
any sugestions on the size?
ive heard a 3" exhaust system from the extractors gives the most power from the b16a2. is it true? can anyone clarify it for me and tell me why this wouldnt work.
is backpressure everything?

3" too big for a 1.6ltr.
go anywhere from 2"-2.5"
3" like *****dood says would be more appropriate for a turbo application.

Yep, 2.5" is good. Not too big, not too small...
Get a 2.5" Cat, 2.5" resonator, 2.5" piping, a decent rear muffler and you'll notice the difference in the seat of your pants.

2.25 is more than enough.
for a 1.6, 2.5 is a bit too big imho.
But its not the exhuast you should worry about, get better headers and you will notice most improvement fomr that.

2.25 will be best on the street. ie more drivable. you wont lose too much bottom end that way. 2.5 will see slightly better gains right up top but you'll lose a lot of bottom end pull.
3" on 1.6 NA is just plain stupid. whoever told you that needs to go back to school on the subject

I have been told by one exhaust guy that 2.25 is even too big for a B16A2 causing you to loose low to mid range tourque. Seeing as I don't red line everywhere I too would be interested to know the truth, surely it's out there!?!?
I will be doing the same as you soon, on the same car Doch, and I think opinions are mixed? I'm thinking I might go 2.25 Mandrel bent, although, it was recommended to get 2 inch. I reall am still deciding.
Did you get after market extractors, if so what kind/price/place etc...

for a B16 go 2.25" mandrel. 2" will be resticive when you do want to push it towards the redline.
2" is good for a D16 but for a B16 you'll be missing out on the best part of the engine.
a lot of exhaust places put all 1.6l's in the same box, when they obviously arent.
you will lose a slight bit down low but not really enough to notice.
anyway, all the companies which actually produce systems for B16's use 60mm which is actually slightly larger than 2.25"

do u reckon mandrel bent or press bent?
is it worth the extra price? is it the same to get a 2.5 press bent compared to a 2.25 mandrel ?

This has been covered like a trillion times. 2.25" is ideal because it gives you the right amount of back pressure. Always go for mandrel bends, press bends are crud.
