Do it urself and it will cost nothing. I cant see you getting any change from anywhere between $1200-$2000+ from a workshop, it all depends on how many 'extras' they charge you for.

As far as the process goes, try a search on google, i'm sure there are more then a few writies.. THe EG vti is equivilent to an EX inthe US.

thats way too much, some shops here do it for 8k here and still thats pricey

totti
04-03-2004, 08:16 PM
you have to pay for quality, 10g's is expensive, but 7-8 is reasonable

pay the extra up front and you will be smiling ear to ear

04-03-2004, 08:24 PM
Its not always true totti. Sometimes shops can take advantage of lack the lack of knowledge of a customer- the same as in any retail situation. If you arnt goign to do it yourself, still continue to research the conversion process. It will let you call bs when u get charged for something not needed/non-exsistant.

Yeh thats true, shops take advantage of people who look like they know nothing about what they are doing.. But in most cases you get what you pay for, like Weq said research it ALOT before you go handing over any cash.

Get a well explained quote to, written and signed. Thing is, if you are talking B18C5, they will up the price immensely

10k is way to much for just a b18c swap. good performance offered 11k for a full race bred b20 hybrid, thats with everything done to it. and bigger brakes. and engineer certificate

GP did it for me for $7000 drive in drive away... includes everything u need.. Eng Cert. upgraded brakes (Teg VTiR).. everything you need to have it on the road legal and drivable...!?!?! 10 000km warranty.... i've just clocked my motor over 14000km since its been dropped in & that was Aug03, and haven't had a single prob. with it!!!

It can certainly be done cheaper.. but again that depends if you have the time to spend on it.!?!?

raff
05-03-2004, 12:37 PM
so if i wanna do it with minimal costs, but a good enough job.........how much would u think????

what do i need to replace???

can i drop it straight in?? ie keep same brakes, gearbox, clutch...

get a frontcut with ECU and loom. U will have to change all the above that u listed. For it to be legal u need the brakes of the vti-r. You willl need to covert ur EG to the new ECU (OBDII) and need the wiring accordingly. As The cut will come witha gearbox \w clutch, your current gearbox will NOT fit upto a b-series engine

how much hassle and money would it be to do this same conversion in a 2000 model vti-r coupe. civic that is. and how much of a performance difference will it make? is it worth it?

[[d a n n y]]

vtir coupe?

beautiful as it is leave it

only the GLi or the VTi

VTIR dont touch it

you guys are getting ripped off!!! 10g's OMG what a rape story!!!! on this board theres people who can csource sir-g swaps for 4k+/- and the install would only cost about 1000 or nothing if you buy a helms and do it yourself...
i disagree with you danny. The coupe could do with a bigger block. why not go crvtec as mcChook suggested?

what sort of a price difference would it b 2 put in a B16A?

hey jai-vti

do u have any friends that are mechanics?
cos the b16a swap is pretty simple..
i sat back and watched my friend do it in my driveway..
all u really need is a hoist (go hire one) and a aircompressor w/ rattle gun

10k for installation??
that is way too pricey...maybe if its including the engine and all parts then its not too bad...(still pricey though)
there is HEAPS of information on the net
http://hybrid2.honda-perf.org/
http://hybrid2.honda-perf.org/tech/5gtech.html
the GSR is wat the yanks call the VTiR over here.
Its one of the most straight forward swaps of all honda engines, thats why its the most popular in the states...and also becuz the civic is so dammm light!!! :)
The B18C engine bolts straight in becuz it shares the same mounting points u will need is gearbox, breaks and electronics for the enigine. (best to get a front cut) as per what Weq posted.
not 100% sure but u will need an engineers certiface becuz its an increase in engine capacity...but u might get away with it becuz its only 200cc but u will need to check with vicroads or RTA.
good luck with ur Hybrid Honda!! :D
