Hey guys,

After my previous thread i finally bought a Honda. Skyline insurance and problems were to much for me to warrant getting a skyline ;)

Used to drive a VN Berlina which served me well.

First 4 pics were from the dealers website and the last 5 are from my phone. (Gotta use it for something :) )

Havent had time to post them and no webspace (Telstra taking 2 weeks to activate new cable account!!)

The car is a Honda Civic 2000 model with 38500 clicks. Had an NRMA report done and it said it was a 'Sound Vehicle'.

Planning to get some nice 17" mags, lower a lil bit and maybe an exhaust tip (or whole thing) so it doesnt look so stock :P. Nothing to ricey but just so it looks a bit better.

If anyone can recommend me some good mag wheel dealers in Sydney that would be great. I have a style in mind but cant find it anywhere.

So here they are ... my new baby

Still at work so havent had time to use Rowies album site.

If i ever get my Telstra cable account activated ill do it on the weekend.

Would i be safe in aiming to add things in the following way to the car:

1. Rims
2. Lower
3. Exhaust
4. Turbo + Brakes? 8)

ed: btw is it worth putting an exhaust system and a turbo for an auto civic ?

I wouldnt go the whole hog but would certainly like some extra power for 0-40/60 which the car lacks.

Yeah GLi .. cant afford a Vti model ... yet ;)

I wanted something 'newer' anyway. 2000 model aint to shabby for a first car i think. Specially come from driving a Holden VN Berlina 8)

Hey Krim,

if you're planning to boost your car down the track spending money on an N/A exhaust will be a waste of money as you'll have to change it for a turbo application.

Krim

N/A exhaust ?

Dont know what that means :(

Hi sorry Krim. N/A stands for Naturally Aspirated... compared to Forced Induction which basically denotes turbos.

Your N/A Civic will probably be optimally upgraded to a 2-2.25" diameter exhaust piping if you wanted to mod it now, but when/if you decide to boost/turbo it, most turbo exhaust piping i believe is around the 3" mark.
So basically if you spend $ now to upgrade to a better exhaust for your N/A civic, you'll be wasting that money down the track if you go the turbo route because you'll need to spend cash to change the exhaust once again.
Just wait for someone more technical to come along and explain. :)
hope that made a little sense.

Made perfect sense thanks.

I still dont think ill go the whole hog because its still going to be a Civic Gli auto 8)

Not even sure if i should put an exhaust on because it will be more rice than performance gain. Thanks for the heads up though.

Im prolly goin to keep the civic until i finish my traineeship and get my rating 1 insurance then upgrade time :P

What do you guys think about having an exhaust on the car.

I was thinking of getting full exhaust system ($$ permitting) but it may sound crap (or just be a fart can) considering its an auto ?

What performance gains would i expect if any and would it be better to get a cannon style exhaust or a dumper? Pros/Cons ?

ed: Not sure if should bother at all if it will sound crap and just be for wank value :(

Although, when i get mags it will look crap with a stock exhaust.

N/A exhaust ?

Dont know what that means :(

N/A = Naturally Aspirated.

So - "wasting" money upon a N/A setup would include - full 4-2-1 / 4-1 header , hi-flow cat and piping back to the mufler - all of which is useless to be used for a turboed setup ( cannot use the manifold to mount trubo , pioping too restrictive etc etc.)

Oh - even tho the links dont work - WElcome Krim ;)

joneblaze answered the NA question :)

I dont think i will go the turbo route as id prolly save the 5k or so and pay off my car or sell the car and get a better one :)

And also its prolly not worth getting an auto turbo'ed ? Correct me if im wrong.

Thats why i want to get a nice looking exhaust but im not sure if it would be any benefit or more trouble than its worth considering its a gli auto. Worried that it may not sound great because it is an auto and not a manual.

More wank value than anything im guessing ?

yeh, they are lenso's, get them from big - o -tyres.... 1500 for a set of 17's with tyres or so.....

Do you know the difference between the Lensos and the Alts ?

I found them both on that site and got quoted $1540 for the lensos fitted.

The Alt 184 look exactly the same as the Lensos so not sure on the difference.

The guy mentioned i may have to 'roll the guards' on my model civic since they are 17"s. Is this a bad thing?

Lastly, is it a fact that if you go more than 2"s in wheel size it throws of your speedo and odometer ? Friend told me this but not sure if its a hard and fast rule.

I should stop with the noob questions huh :o

Rolling guards is normal, but will probably only have to be done once/if you lower it.

Costs around $50 a guard and you will prob only need the back done.

Check to make sure the overall rolling diameter is the same as the largest combo available from the factory (look at your tyre placard - probably in the driver side door jam). Legally you can only go 15mm bigger in overall diameter (this includes wheel and tyre).

I would also just make sure you are covered for insurance as well.

Yeah www.tyres.com.au quoted me $75 a guard.

Ive checked with my insurer and i can get 1 'cosmetic' upgrade under my current policy for this year. So getting some rims now is ok.

What should i be looking for on the placard on the door and on the tyre itself in terms of how much bigger i can go.

Those numbers dont mean much to me :(

Jus-10

$75 a guard is pretty pricey man.

If you look on your placard it will give you a run down on the wheel sizes offered by the factory along with recommended tyre sizes.

Now say from the factory, the biggest overall diameter is say 450mm (this is just an example remember) legally you can only have an overall rolling diameter of 465mm. Get it? It doesn't matter if your wheels are 4 inches bigger than factory, just so long as the overall diameter doesn't increase by more than 15mm - this is where tyre profiles come in (for NSW). As an example, My 2003 BMW had 15inch rims standard, but I could legally fit 19inch rims. Details can be found on the RTA website.

Now these numbers won't appear on the placard, so I suggest you might want to write down what is on your placard (only the detail for the largest rim available - it will prob be 15 inch in clude tyre sizes) and post them up here if you want and either I or someone else can work it out for you (rather than trying to explain how to do it).

On the other hand, alot of people don't care about all these details and just get what they want rather than what's legal...so I guess that's an option too.

Krim

lol nah ill stay legal :P

Considering my excess is $100 short of my yearly premium i dont want to fork out extra $$$ if i can help it.

Ill post back what it says on my placard tomoz.

Thanks for your help Jus-10.

ed: How about the increase in size affecting speedo/odometer ?

Is this true ?
