Hi Guys.

Just joined your forum and its full of usefull info. I've had a bit of a look around and learnt alot in the last few hours just from this site.

At the moment I own a holden barina which i've put a filter and exhaust on. I don't wanna spend too much money on it because......its a barina!! hehe.

Im llokin at buyin a crx, probably the 3rd gen, with the b16a2. Just wantin to know what you guys think of these cars?? Are they reliable?? I know they've got alot of potential just from lookin at your site.

Im lookin to turn a few heads so i think the 3rd gen shape will make that happen but i also wanna kick a little ass at the lights and i was wonderin how the 3rd gen goes against other small hatches. eg. civic, pulsar, etc

Anyway, im sure you guys will know what your on about.

Thanks in advance

Jason

dont let the gen2 owners put you off this little gem, they're just jealous they dont own one.

It may not be the most performance orientated Honda platform, but it's got character and the driving experience is right up there with the best.

gen 3 can look mean. a nice subtle yet aggresive lipping kit, lowered and a good choice of rims (preferably JDM forged glory). zeldas gen3 looks good.
gen2 already look aggressive but too many get overly blinged up and lose their appeal. in fact alot just end up lloking plain stupid.
all comes down to what you do with it. theres even some hot gen1's getting around.

Very reliable already got a B16 so no need for a transplant. Eg6 Lip, lower, and jdm rims and ur set.

Anyone comment on the gen3 (del sol) - and buying it with such high KM's? ALL the ones on carsales are ~16k with 150KM+ on them :S

I don't mean in regard to the engine being bullet proof which I'm sure it is, but other stuff, like rubber wear and tear, suspension, brakes etc etc. I know my Ford currently has 180KM, and it's engine is awesome, except brakes squeal and any bumpy roads really lets you know the car has had it's time.

Hi all.... Miss Bumble B now drives a gen3 CRX :D

Issues I have with this gen:
- Bad vision / huge blind spot
- No latch inside the car to open boot. Have to use keys to open it from outside

Apart from that, it's a very nice car. Coming from an auto SOHC VTEC, it's definately heaps fun to drive.

so it sounds like they are a good car. I love the look of them with a descent, yet subtle, kit on there.

Am i right in saying that the parts for the B16A are relitively easy to find but they can be pricey??? at the moment ive got a european car and its a bitch to find spare parts for.

From a wear and tear point of view id probably just replace anythin thats causin trouble with an aftermarket replacement cause they're usually better. ie. if im havin trouble with suspension i'll just get some new springs and shocks and while im doin that i'll lower it slightly.

How would the gen3 go against a SSS Pulsar that has an exhaust and filter?? i see alot of them goin around and I wanna be able to show them that they're not the king of the road just cause they drive a nissan!!

Thanks again guys, you've been great.

BSRacer
09-10-2005, 11:28 PM
I'd say a gen3 would probly beat a SSS, I know my gen2 would :D. All newer car's parts are expensive so that's not really an issue. The only thing that I don't like about the gen3 is the weight (around 1100kg) whereas my gen2 has a b16a and only weighs around 850kg. As far as small stylish cars go gen3 is a pretty good option unless you want rwd or turbo or both. The only reason I would choose a gen3 over a gen2 is the age difference. You are probably not going to have all of the old car problems we gen2 owners have ie leakey hatches, rusty sunroofs etc.

think he means wrx... if so, then correction:

gen3 wrx > any honda sports car except nsx.

by rex he means crx, not wrx.

As people have said just as the crx has got a b16a2 dont mean its gonna go like shit of a shovel, as they are so much heavier than previous gen crx's and civics. Most people opt for a gen2 as they are much lighter than the 3, althou imo the gen3 looks a lot nicer when modified properly, i.e no huge chromies and way out there body kits, the car has rather clean lines, should use that to your advantage and not try and change them.

DLO01
10-10-2005, 07:42 AM
No latch inside the car to open boot. Have to use keys to open it from outside

Theres no latch inside for the boot cause its a targa. If you leave your top open someone can get inside and use the latch to open your boot.

I love me Gen 3. Its a top car, might be a bit heavy for its size and may look a little girly, but both things you can fix, make it look mean and absolutly fly.

JasonGilholme
10-10-2005, 08:03 AM
had a look at www.todaracing.com.au and they're got some awesome bolt on goodies for the b16a. I wanna keep the car NA for insurance but i reckon the stroker kit with the new cams and adjustable cam gears would make the gen 3 whoop alot of cars that it shouldn't, even considering the weight.

Mr. Focus
10-10-2005, 10:11 AM
as a gen 2 owner...im very biased. these can look shite if done blingy! also, off the line the delsol beats me (b16a vs d16a), but with a rolling start the d16a wins hands down

Hi Jason,

What a question... Well I have owned both and until recently was driving both until I just sold the Gen 2 last w'end. Well in my HONEST opinion I think the Gen 2 is a SPORTS car and the Gen 3 is a FUN car.

So thinking on that you should decide what you want out of you car... sure you can make a Gen 3 very fast and improve the handeling, but I think Gen 2's have SPORT written all over them... That's just my 2 cents!

JasonGilholme
10-10-2005, 06:49 PM
thanks JEZ3L. Thats what i want. I want a car that i can take out on a sunday and hoon around some mountain runs and have a little fun with other drivers.

I just need some more money... :(

My Gen 3 will have NO kits... MAYBE lowered an inch or two and will get an exhaust, extractors and high flow cat. That's it, I bought it for it's age, low kms air con and targa!

Looks? I like it the way it is to be honest :) Girly... Hmmm you either like it or you don't!

Hope you are happy with your descision, but either way, WELCOME to the world of HONDA and CRX!

hey JasonGilholme welcome to OH, the fact u actually have a taste in CRX well done! Your unique and different from the rest thats wat also owning a CRX is all about.
I love crx's from the day 1. My first car was a gen1 CRX and now my second car is currently a gen2 crx. Thou who knows what might be my third car? A gen3 crx heheh ;) just have to wait and see.
The apple doesn't fall far from the tree in the way that gen1 crx's and gen2 crx's are shaped and with gen3 i got no clue wat they were thinking.

yeh i would choose then gen3 (for its age as someone has already mentioned) but then again the gen3 was the sole reason why the CRX production was stopped. :P
yeah i reackon gen3 ruined it for CRX in general full stop. But never give up on wat u like man. Thats how its been for me and i loved CRX so much it didn't matter if my nissan friends said it's S*#@ cause quietly i think they can suffer in their jocks now that petrol prices are high. Which mean in return more money in my back pocket to do mods(modifications) and less on fuel compared to the boost commowhores(commodores).. point being is if u like the gen3 crx go for it.Read my story http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16262&page=7&pp=12

And as u say u can turn heads in a crx EXCON1 gen3 showcar @ autosalon
http://www.powerstudios.com.au/images/airbrushed_vehicles/hot_cars/large/exconcar3.jpg

Or even rip it up 400kw's by our very own JAMES in the BLKCRX @ autosalon dyno its all a matter of how much amount of money u have...

Gen 2 = the prettiest Honda ever, excluding the S500/S600/S800. Gen 1s look damn nice too - a touch more aggressive if you can find an Si import.

Gen 3s are girly cars - up there with Celicas in the hairdresser stakes. Just because they have a B16A doesn't make them great - IMO they are a step backwards in evolution - get an EG Civic instead. Honda should be bitchslapped for the gayness that is the 3G CRX.

Personally, I'd have an order of preference as follows:

JDM EF8 SiR (Gen 2) glasstop CRX, Gen 2 SiR, Aussie spec ED9. JDM AT Si (Gen 1). EG Civic....

.... put on a dress and call myself Nancy and then cut my wrists for even considering a 3G Del Slow.

NSX
S2000
MDX
EF/EG SiR Civic/CRX
ITR
CTR (EK onwards)
AT Si Civic/CRX
City Turbo 2
S800 (for its era)
Gen 1 Civic RS1200 (for its era)

All have excellent power to weight ratios.

I left out the EK SiR/VTiR and Del Slow as well as the EM1 - as they are pretty hefty beasts in terms of weight.

I think you might need to actually research before showing your nubness :D

Both tegs (esp with front conversion) and 3g crx/sol get my votes in looks department. Wicked cars, except crx has 2 seats only, not functional enough for me. Luv it all the same, it's human nature to want something u cant have... bitch.

Any car will turn heads if u are willing to spend the money on it, so get something u truly like, not just for the image (although u should consider it). I say make a very informed decision, and i mean very very informed!!! (more reading 4 u). If u get something based on others opinions alone, chances are u'll get bored of it and it'll end up in the 4 sales section. Waste of time and money if u ask me. :thumbdwn:

Superior to a Hyundai maybe, but give me a decent car over supposed, debatable "superior build quality" any day of the week.

Personally, I rate the build quality on a Mazda or Lexus or Subaru or Nissan or top line Falcodore on a par with Honda - and in some cases I'd rate it well and truly above what we see in Australia.

i dunno about build quality... but for a driver's car, there will be no affordable ones by honda in australia next eyar after the teggy is discontinued without replacement (s2000 being the sole exception)

and thats not looking at Australia neither...around the world Honda doesnt even exciting models not available in Australia...only one being a Civic Si... thats it... at least mitsu has eclipses, etc and even nissans have hot cars overseas

but unfortunately for deomestic or overseas...honda is the ultimate grandparents brand... most sporty car in lineup thats affordable (not s2000) = CRV Sport

deans example is pretty well spot on to what i want. Not to "out there" on the kit but plenty of power and the subtle looks that go with it. I'd love to come to the honda's in the hills but i'll be riding in a grandma style holden barina. :(.

Top car dean. Definately what i want. the gen 2's aren't that bad. I find the shape apealing and wouldn't be scared to go the whole nine yards with it, but i love the gen 3 shape and always will.

Haven't really got many photos at work (where I am now).

The kit is a Mugen kit, front bar, side skirts rear skirt. It is subtle like Jase said, not too over the top, thats pretty much why I chose it. Theres quite a few other kits available, have a look at Carmate.

My kit is modifed a little. Front bar to accomodate the Front Mount, and I have also pumped the side skirts out a further 1cm at the rear.

Heres one of the rear.
