I'm planning to install an aftermarket head unit into my euro, but I don't want the head unit to be obvious when I park my car. It is because my apartment car park is not safe at all.

The option that I'm thinking is:
1. to put the unit on the glove box, and put the face plate at the middle pocket below the stock head unit.
2. to crack up the pocket below the unit, cut it into pieces so that the after market head unit can go inside, and i can close the compartment when i park my car. so from outside, thieves will not suspect any modification done to the car.

which one do you think is the best option? or if you have any recommendation, please spit it out :)

Thanks!

Number 2 is the way to go if you can achieve it. From memory no one has installed a head unit underneath the original unit but still keep the lid (and able to close)

raz05, if i do the same thing like the one in the photo, I'm pretty convinced that my window is gonna be smashed within one week after i install it :) bloody low lifers thief!

with the number 2 option, i already spoke with my installator, and he said that he can not do it. i'll just try to talk to him about my new idea tommorow.

hey ngupil,

that head unit raz05 showed you is a picture of the install in my car.

My original plan was the same as yours and i still wanted to be able to close the lid - but yea as you found out it can't really be done, i even suggested that they modify the storage bin to fit it, but even then it was a job they didnt want to do.

I think you can actually buy a storage bin replacment that has 1 standard size din input in it and a din sized pocket underneath. at the time i got mine done there was no such thing so i had to pay to get a faceplate made up.

if you got anymore questions i might be able to help, ive changed all the speakers in mine aswell and have an mp3 player input in the cup holder.

(btw Ray - i saw you driving out of uni today in your euro - the car was lookin very mean )

hey Chris,

I want the storage bin replacement that has 1 standard size din input in it realllllll bad!!! if the installator can not fixed the problem of audio storing by tommorow, i have to find other way, and this is the best thing i know so far. can you please give me more information about this? for example, the brand, website address, etc etc. i think there are many people that wants this information. but anyway, i'll pm u to talk more about audio in euros :P

The storage bin might be availbale from ya local Honda dealer as the OEM tape and MP3 option units are mounted there and look like single DIN units.

Timbo, I've done my research, and I already about those products. But I want the one similar like yours, but still got the cover on.

Billizor, the stock honda casing for mp3 doesn't got the cover.

Maybe i'll buy another lower pocket thing, and modified it myself. I'll let you know if i succeed :) if i fail, i just keep it to myself :P

hahah so if we dont hear from ya.... lol

The bin is to narrow unfortunatley.
The only thing i can think of would be to remove the actual door (the wood or marble look bit) totally from the bin.
Then use this with velcro or something just to attach in front of the stinger type kit when you want to hide it.
Not sure if it would work, but at a glance it will look stock.

ditto, i want to keep the door as well, its good to hide your deck and looks better. They said that the door bits are in the way, but someone i saw said they can modify it so the door will come down.

either way i think its a custom job

i'm planning to get a alpine dvd player later, i'll post pics up in a couple of months time if i can get that door to stay

i had organized to do a custom job to customize the lower pocket so that an after market head unit can fit in and have a lid on. but it will be done when i'm going back home to indo in a month time, since no one here can do it.

also, the price of the lower pocket compartment is bloody expensive here .. $182 for a plastic box =( honda part and accessories is such a rip off. pretty sure the pocket will be much cheaper too in indo.

$182! woah... that is such a rip off. I had to get a face plate custom made and it was about the same price and not mass produced plastic... be sure to post some pics up when you get this done in indo to - would love to see how it turns out.

You can. i've changed my front and rear speakers and put an amp in, but i still have my stock head unit. the noise is there when there is a mistake in the installation (like mine :( ) but the sound quality came out of the speaker will not be as good as if you change the head unit. if i'm not mistakenly wrong, the stock head unit output is 3 volt, and the after market ones are 9 volt.

ngupil... it is fairly common for realtively good aftermarket headunits to have 4-5V preouts whereas entry level ones generally have 2-3V preouts. I think the problem with the stock head unit is that it has no true output, you have to use a line-level output which results in poor sound quality.

Generally speaking you want a headunit with a high preout voltage (like my eclipse cd8051:D haha), it has 8v preouts. because the output is so high i can afford to have the gains turned right down on my amps and that means less unwanted noise and better sound quality.

Man i wish Eclipse was detach face cause when i was looking.
I would have got one rather than Alpine 9835.

PERTH_EURO - yea i was bit worried not being able to detach the face. but eclipse has this thing where if the headunit is stolen in the first year they give you a new one. which was enuf for me. alpine still a good deck tho.

oopss .. sorry about the wrong info. thanks chris for correcting me. i'm still a noob in audio though :P

I think JL audio has new thing that could enhance the sound qualify with stock headunit. this is the web address for the new device http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_cleansweep_pages.php?page_id=94

when i asked my installator if this will help the sound quality, he said he still not sure because he never install it before. and he said the price going to be expensive compare to if you buy a head unit.

has anyone got this in their car??
