as above..the B18C in my dc2 has been thru 200k kms..even though going strong..bt i just dnt have much confidence in it...feeling that its end is coming soon..
was tinking of putting in a used B18C engine alone..hw much wld it cost?if i were to change the gearbox to the ITR's box...is there anything i have to modify to fit it?frm my knowledge it shld fit straight in...
if i were to get B18CR plus the ITR gearbox...do i have to change the ECU or any other stuffs?or its just a simple bolt on?as above..hw much wld each option cost?
B18C - hw much?
B18C + ITR gearbox - hw much?
B18CR + ITR gearbox - hw much?

why? do you think its not reliable?
plenty of b18c's have plus 200K without problems. as long as engine maintained ok shouldn't be a problem. I think its a waste of money to consider swapping it before its time is up. And yes, ITR gearbox should bolt straight on and you don't need to change your ECU.

yeh complete waste of money to swap new engine when it is not even needed. A B18C will last you the distance if you look after it properly. I had an Integra LS that had done 250,000+ kms with no engine problems.

my old engine did 335,000 kms before i changed it and it was still goin
so if your saving from now your gonna have enough money to buy a nsx when ur engine dies

when you say last, do you mean that the engine will still put out good power? [sorry to hijack] what about the d-series engines? could they be kept and still run, putting out good power after 200, 000 kms?

I'd say stick with what you have, and if it starts to die off then get a rebuild.. I got my b18c rebuilt and it's going strong.. lol (the oil burning was just shitty running in oil :P lol doesn't like vtec) Plus it would be a cheaper option to swapping in a b18cR and you can easily get more power outa your b18c then just using a stock b18cR for less than buying just the b18cR..

why you thinking of changing it for??? if its still work than drive it heahehaehah, but instead of spending the money on a re-con engine...why not do a rebuilt of it...wouldnt that be better???

in terms of resale...if i rebuild my engine vs re-con engine....which 1 wld fetch higher price if im selling the car as a whole?

Well i got my engine rebuilt through Hi Comp Performance and it's $4500 for the rebuild.. I Payed $5700 for mine because i got forged pistons, lightened flywheel and adjustable cam gears..

hmmm...you not plainning to keep it??? you might get a bit higher....but dont count me on that...cause i met friends that do work on motors and they got a fair for it so yeah....

if your gonna sell it why not just sell it as is, it won't be worth it doing a rebuild and then selling it unless the rest of the car is flawless and you find some1 who really wants your car and is willing to pay for it.. if the current engine is completely stuffed then yeah find some second hand thing and swap it in, as long as your doing the work yourself..

B18cR's you'll be looking around $5K for a half decent one anyway, plus that's $4500 is you go through hi comp, that's including all new gaskets and bearings etc etc, they'll bore out the block a little, put new pistons in it, balance it etc, you'll be making as much power as a stock b18cR if not more plus your engine is guaranteed brand new no problems.. you could buy a b18cR and have the rings gone it or head gasket gone, bent rods..? there's no real way of telling till u have bought the engine and installed it.. that's why i'd strongly recommend getting the rebuild rather then swapping engine..

i've been looking through my options for a b16a (done 150K ALMOST)... basically getting a new engine is not recommended unless u have a D16 (sorry to d16 owners) cos
1. u wont know the condition of the engine ur getting from the wreckers... even the KMs could have been tinkered with
2. engine swaps = huge labor expenses
3. the engine could have had a hard life
B18CR = as ppl have said around $4000 bucks + 1500 ish labor for a halfcut
now looking at rebuilding an engine... u can budget
1. $500 for pistons, rings,
2. $500 for rods, rod pins
3. $500 for all bearings, washers, etc
4. $300 for all the necessary gaksets approx
for $1800 u basically have a brand new bottom engine minus the crankshaft. And from what i've heard, crankshafts dont stuff up or die with old age. Dont quote me on this one, but thats wot i heard. But in any case, blocks dont die unless u put a conrod through them
If ur super pedantic u can upgrade ur top end valvetrain as well with new valves, springs, retainers, those rubber grommet things where u put the spark plug... all this can be had for around $1000 bucks
so ROUGHLY for 2800 u have a brand new engine that will actually need running in vs $4500 bucks for a tired engine with little known history
do the rebuild

It took a month, but that's coz it took em a while to find the pistons coz i got bored out alot more than usuall honda didn't have pistons big enough..
I'd say depending on who you go through it could take anywhere from 3 weeks to 5 weeks, depending on how quickly they can get the parts together and how stuck into it they get..

ic..hw abt the ITR gearbox?cz i wan something with shorter ratio..and also tougher...vtir gearbox :(

I'm actually just looking into getting shorter ratio's for my box atm also, my mechanic gave me a catalog from a company called KAAZ who speciallize in close ratio gear sets and limited slip differentials, there's no prices in this but i'm going to ring up about it tomorow, i will post some prices here after i call.

How's this for a claim on the B series ->
Reliability
Honda is also known for its engines longevity and reliability. There are several Integras with the B18B (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_B_engine#B18) LS engine that have 700,000 km+ on them with all original parts.
This was taken from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_Engines
Years ago i read an article in SMH reviewing the B18C engine, i remember it stating the engine would go without missing a beat for at least 300,000kms if serviced regularly. Good old reliable honda! ;)
