I think its just for the display - none the less - pretty cool.

The Lotus Elise R (something of that nature) doesn't actually have see through panels but semi see through... you can actually see the driver getting in and out but its behind like this mat panel. - cool idea too!

If memory serves me right, it was shown at the Tokyo Motor Show a few years back. :)
