Hi all,
I'm going to be looknig at an EG GLi today, I just wanted to know a few things about them.
How do they go (compared to the VTI / si)
Which engine is in it (i know its the 1.5) , but is that the carby or twin cam?
If carby, how much is it for a twin cam / vtir conversion.
Do they have 4 disc brakes?
What is standard on the car? i.e. windows (pwr) etc
This car has done 200k. has custom interior (white leather and huge ass stereo), altezzas and an exhaust.. ohh plus chromies.
Realistically, whats it worth??
Cheers!

Nah its a manual..
Is it hard to transfer over to an si motor?? or is it easier/better to just dump a b16?
Also, what would i need to do to dump a b16?

Do a search for the engine swaps. However, since you havn't bought one yet I'd tend to recommend just saving a bit more and getting one of the cars that come with the engines you want. Especially an si or a vti. Unless you particularly want an eg with a b16a or some such. Will save so much trouble. Plus you get the other little things like 4 wheel discs, rear swaybar.

my sister had one for around 2 years but just recently wrote it off. it was completley stock standard. ill help answer your questions...
How do they go (compared to the VTI / si) - i have a vti and the glis dont stand a chance, vtis and si are compared similar - so ive been told, so wouldnt match an si either... from driving the gli, they have not much torque and fairly flat throughout the range. just a real basic get around car.
Which engine is in it (i know its the 1.5) , but is that the carby or twin cam?
- they are a single cam fuel injected
If carby, how much is it for a twin cam / vtir conversion.
- b16a conversion or b18c with everything, brakes, mounts, transmission etc etc, looking at around $15k+ (from jdm yard)... better off buying a vtir.
Do they have 4 disc brakes?
- fronts are disks, rears are drums
What is standard on the car? i.e. windows (pwr) etc -
standards = power windows, mirros, steering, air con. all the basic features. vtis have sunroof and cup holders though :)
This car has done 200k. has custom interior (white leather and huge ass stereo), altezzas and an exhaust.. ohh plus chromies.
- chromies suck and just add weight to your car...
- 200k is way too much
- leather is cool, but white leather = dirty easily
Realistically, whats it worth??
my sister got hers which was a MINT 92 model with 65k on it 3 years ago... YES A REAL FIND for only $9,000... it was from a one owner lady in a decent location.
this type of package would be near impossible to find again however any under 100k should be no more over $9,000 - just be smart about it and look around at good locations, lady owner, and one and only owner with logs.
honest opinion, buy a vti or si, it will probably only be around an extra grand. plus u get extra power, better motor, more features.

so what engine does the 93 GLI have?
Looked at the civic owners thread, and there is not mention of the 1.5 litre model.
How many kilowatts/ torque, weight etc????
how do they go??? if anyone knows, the guys also got extractors and an exhaust on it
Thanks!

17" chrome wheels, FULL WHITE LEATHER interior, sports exhaust, sports air fillter, lowered, extrators, chrome back lights, 6.5" speakers in the front by apline type R, 4" in the back, two 12" subwoofers in the boot by alpine type S, alpine MRO-M609 amp, still have original back lights and exhaust.
(does it sound okish???)
search it on google man. good place to use is www.redbook.com.au (http://www.redbook.com.au/)
most of their information is correct. from memory, GLi is EFI and its a 1.5L. Where as VTi and Si are 1.6L
the power for VTi and Si is 96kw. all cars are Front wheel drive.
VTI- SOHC VTEC
SI- DOHC no vtec
GLi - from memory is SOHC - no vtec
vtir convesrions vary between diff motors and conditions. expect something from 3k-7k installed for civic/teggy vtir motors. hope i helped
i rekcon its worth about 6.5k

Thanks,
First thing i tried was redbook! but sometimes the info isn't correct.
Is there anyway to tell on the engine that its a gli??
I'll googlize a search and see what i can bring up!
6.5?? hmmm... how come?

the engine will be the same as 94civicvti said. 1.5L single cam fuel injected. Redbook says it has 74kW 133Nm. I doubt the exhaust mods would make much difference at all. If you aren't too worried about acceleration and just want a good looking car to cruise around in then this sounds alright. However, if you are at all concerned then I'd wait.

The engine code will be located on the engine looking at it from the front about half way down on the left hand side. should have d15b7?? not sure about the number.
edit: just looked at the ad. Looks ok. I don't like the wheels but if that floats your boat. It's not going to go as well as it looks and I wouldn't pay anywhere near what he's asking. I'd much rather a stock vtir for that money.

well.. i've seen the car a few times.. and it goes quite well..
what i'm debating is that he wants to swap my prelude for his and a cash adj.. just trying to ascertain how much cash to ask for :)

looks like a nice car but the rims are gay.
yes i have the specs book for the civic and 92 gli has 74kw with 133nm for gli. vti has 96kw with 145nm. i still think 13,000 for a car with 200k on it is asking way too much. i think he is trying to get his money back for his mods he has done. i wouldnt buy it at all.
the extractors still wouldnt beat a vti or si, plus the added weight of his stereo and mags would probably have made no difference anyway. hehe
dont know the engine model name though.

why do you want to swap a vtir prelude for a gli civic???
DKS51R
13-10-2005, 03:12 PM
Cause am sick of my VTIR, and want a change. always wanted an Eg.
Now whether its a GLI, SI or VTIR, i'm trying to see the difference.
I'm looking at an SI next weekend (its in Syd)
and the GLI today.
Both want to swap theirs for mine, both are the same age /k's. just wanted to see what i should do.
Am having a crap time trying to sell the damn thing.... nobody wants preludes anymore!!!
But above all that, i don't want my wife driving the prelude! and in 8mths time.. we won't be needing it anymore..
why do you want to swap a vtir prelude for a gli civic???

Definitely wait and see the si then you can make up your own mind which one you like. But I would be wanting a fair bit on top of the civic for your car. For starters its a lot newer. Less k's? He's trying to get his money back on the customisations of the car but it just dosn't work that way.

sounds like a rip off!! 200K on a car for 13,000. For a few mor grand you could buy a brand new car with the same power figures.
I reckon you should keep your lude man. But if you must go and get the eg i reckon you should get the one with more balls becuase you will soon get sick of the all show but now go gli.
just my 2 cents.
also is the si DOHC or SOHC?? don't know heaps about the civics. either way i prefer a DOHC motor.

Well... bit of an update.
Saw the civic.. not too bad..
Is it normal for civics @ 4k rpm to acc like a vtec??
the car is in great condition, minor things (where the mirrors should be adjusted its missing, kick panel and no carpet (he's got black lino???) the leather is actual leather and the motor is good (the only thing is needs a good wash and some painting (i.e. red, white etc)
the chromies are brand new (but would sell them anyways)
The car is lowered (would increase a little bit)
and the exhaust/extractors make it sound quite nice.
The guy with the SI, can't afford the insurance on the prelude, so a no go there!

Well it sounds like you like it, which is fine. But I still wouldn't be paying nearly 14k for it. Maybe 8 or 9 at the very most if you're keen on it. No matter what else its got done to make it look good it's still done 200k and is 13 years old.

I'm a bit skeptical.. nicish car, but as my wife says.. we'd be going from a race horse to a donkey (for this car only)
i told the guy straight up. 14k he's dreaming!
But i said it would be worth the 9ish mark, and explained to him the suttlties of modding a car and not getting back your money..
The guy was pantering over the lude! (who wouldn't be given its in an awesome condition!)
The engine is what concerns me the most.. how much is it to rebuild a D15?
