hey guys, i've read the post bout redbuilding a b18c... how bout a d series? is it worth it or not? ie is it cheaper to swap in a b16, considering insurance adjustment too, esp for a first car, male 19 yo?? cos im after an Si with a lot of k's on the clock, and am a bit worried bout the engine not being so crash hot. i'd be looking at a few mods to start off with (springs/dampers, rear sway, i/h/e, short shifter, clutch, flywheel) gettin a zippy little car that i can possibly take to the track and just skill up with my driving... what are you reccomending? thanks heaps boys an gals!

just do a conversion to a b16... i wouldnt bother rebuilding a d series... if not just hold out for a d series with less K's

yes its called the d16a8. This block design dates back to early 1987 and perhaps earlier...came up in our 1991-1993 honda civics , and lastly in Japan in a "special edition" EG5 afaik...

IMO , make sure the Si is runnign fine and replace anything that will give u trouble with ltos of k's ( timign belt , water pump , maybe recondition head ~ get gearbox + clutch looked at etc) and just drive everyday normal...save up a few $$$ for suspension work then take it to the track for abit of fun :) Great little cars ( i have one myself)

ok... how much of that can i do myself... im no spanner monkey, but im dedicated to my hondas and willing to get my hands dirty... someone is selling for 5.5k with 220K. it doesnt have to be lightning fast, altho i dont mind a little bit of poke. does adding thing like cams, camgears. cam shafts lower the life of the engine? are they not reccomended for sometihng that old? thanks guys! i like the d-series!

no not yet - im too figity and paranoid lol - *too many things to think about lol* BUT yes i will eventualyl track it . Its a great little car , ive just installed a new/old engine + toda lightweight flywheel + new HD clutch etc - should give a fwe years of fun yet. More than anything , its just a great car for the everyday commute , taking backstreets quick and fast all under the speed limit

i could... but then i could just get a toyota or a nissan... i love the eg, and want to get keep it N/A for now... my dream is to get a b16b (completely redone - lightweight everything) in a civic chassis... mmm

the Si sounds like a good first car, as does the Vti... somethin i can learn to drive really well in..

yeah i have a D series still for sale having spent $3000 on a complete rebuild stock internals of course. But i think about for that money and say a lil bit extra i could of put a b16a in there. So i am deciding to go ahead with the b18c transplant :D

Mate Snoop Gee is selling his D16a8.

He recently got it 100% rebuilt and running perfectly.

The reason he's selling is because his gearbox needed a re-build and he though why not just spend the money no an engine conversion.... B18c

Cheers,
Mark

there is nothing wrong with the d.... i say rebuild... screw swapping in a motor wih 30extra hp...or 50extra hp for that matter... be cheaper to do the d and IMO just as much fun as a b18c.

24L n 400k equates to 6L p/100k pretty damn goood

Err I highly doubt it. Eg Si you are looking at low-mid 8L/100KMs!

Remember that its "off the top of my head" and really driving to the last drop - still normally I would put in $20 premium and it should get me 300kms easy , 350 on empty. Driving style has alot to do with it im sure...lets not venutre off topic here tho.

Modcon , find a Si or a vti and just do the usual I/H/E mods and get some good rubber + a rear swaybar and take it to the track :)
