Hi Guys,

I have a question that's been bugging me.

As you drive, wind up all the 4 windows and put your hand over the power window controls on driver's side - you shouldn't be able to feel any draft. Now lower the driver's windows an inch or two, and put your hand over the controls again - can you feel a draft on your palm? Try with the other windows. Should be the same. Why does that happen? Anyone? :)

alot other cars do that..... the car's cabin can't be air tight.... otherwise, when the airbag deploys, the air pressure inside the car will blow out all your windows..... :)

I have felt that in my typeS too, just like MRFIT said its to release cabin pressure. Don't be too worried dude, its absolutely normal :)

vents in the back of the car are to release cabin pressure. they are usually hidden in the rear hatch area under the plastic trims. The air is coming through because of a poor seal around your controls, OR you have not replacedthe plastic lining inside your door panel. the main reason for these vents is for heaters / air conds. If they werent there, no air could leave.... so none would enter through the vents, it also makes shutting doors less painfull :)

"Pool seal around your controls" - Could you kindly explain as I don't see how that explain why I only feel the draft when I have my windows lowered? I've felt this since I got the car brand new, so don't think any replacement of plasting lining needed :)

You guys mention cabin pressure.. so can I conclude that when I lower the front window by just a little, more air can escape out of the car, and therefore air flows in from outside through the power window controls to maintain equilibrium?

On a windless day and as we're driving 60-80 km/h, will more air flow into the cabin or out of the cabin as the driver side window gets lowered by an inch, halfway down, totally down?

no air comes through my controls at all? on any of my doors.

air is NOT supposed to come in through the power windows controls! it comes in through windows or the heater / air cond vents, and out the windows and / or the pressure release vents in the rear of the car.

The only reason you feel it when the windows are down is because more air is escaping through the rear vents. When the windows are up, cabin pressure is high, stopping it from coming in through the tiny holes around your controls. when they are open, cabin pressure is low, allowing the air to enter from your controls.

shit... i hope that makes sense :)
