Hey guys,

Im getting this weird clunking noise from the back of my car now, really wouldnt have a clue what it is.

Its been lowered on aftermarket KMAC springs, im thinking maybe one has come loose?

Weird thing is, when the car is stationary and you push down on it you cant replicate the noise and going over bumps it doesnt really happen, it happens at unusual times.

Anyone else experience anything like this?

Can you post up more info re any mods to your car? Also how low are the springs, do you have a camber kit, do you have a aftermarket rear sway bar?

Either way it is going to be hard to diagnose without looking under your car whilst it is up on a hoist. It could be anything like a broken end link, etc.

Lowering is the only mod i have done to the car,

i lowered it 2 inches at the back and 2.5 at the front, the noise is comming from the rear. No, i dont have either a camber kit or after market sway bar.

Im really baffeled by it, a good mate of mine who knows what he is talking about was in the car yesterday and he said it sounded like the spring has poped out of place. I'll try take the tyre off tomorrow and see whats happening underneath

Does this happen when you are say turning off a street and up a ramp sort of thing when the angle is kinda awkward......because i get a twag noise and im thinking maybe my spring like pops out for a second or something also.

I have experienced similar kind of this before.
every time i went over a speed hump, it made this clunking kind of noise at the back. and it was annoying.
I solved it by putting "soft material" between each round of spring.

I will take a picture for you. and post it asap

i think mine has become loose, it suppose to cover atleast first ~4 rounds from the top of the spring.
I just realised this.. I think thats the reason why the clunking noise came back lately..

Interesting concept, im presuming they are also aftermarket springs.

What do you think honda would say about this?

Im hoping we are experiencing the same problems, its a very obvious 'clunk clunk' imagine banging two hollow things together.

To be honest i havent paid that much attention, all i know is that if i throw a car side to side on purpose it doesnt do it and if i push down on the back it doesnt do it and rarely over a speed hump aswell, just when driving.

It sounds like it is the springs as you haven't done anything else. Or it could be the install if something wasn't tightened correctly.

Take it to the place where you had the springs installed. I thought it was your sway bar knocking about (this will happen if it is not tight enough). I can't see why they would need to loosen the sway bar to install your springs though.

That foam or rubber TwEeigh installed is not a bad idea - this is how the Honda sports suspension looks for the CL9. That rubber obviously does something - and noise suppression is a likely reason.

Anyway speak to either KMAC or your installer. The other thing is - PM Peekay34 - he has the KMAC suspension and ask him if he has had any issue.

of course it is after market spring :)
just go to the nearest suspension shop like pedders, ian diffen tyre factory and ask for that rubber.

I dont know what honda would say about this..
they dont like their car being changed and modified.

Mine does a clunking noise when I go down/up angle driveways or sometimes around a corner. However It's the Control Arm Bushings that I need to replace aparently...

It happened to me once. the clunking noice happen when I am turning and when the road is un-even. Took it back to the dealer(because I did not lower my car). They told me the suspension is loosed (no clue??). End up fixing it. No problem now.

Did they by any chance mention how they "fixed" it? :)

The dealer just said he loosen up the suspension, drop it down and then re-thighten them. Did not explain in detail though and I did not ask.

i have the same problem and i have put it down to the fact that the lowered springs are shorter than the standard shockies and when you go around a corner the shockie extends and the spring is sort of rattling around in between the two bumpstops - dont know if it makes sense to anyone else but i hope it does

I have the same clunking noise when I got my coilover fitted. It's gone now, but before, I thought it was the rear sway bar making the clunking noise. I guess it must have been the springs. Maybe it's still settling in? once settled, it will stop making the noise (like mine).

Well thats the thing, ive had the suspension in it for over a month and the noise is new.

I dunno, i'll go back to Ozzytyres and ask them to have a look at it.

Guys I had Eibach springs fitted to my car from Donnellans and had the same clunking noise described by many of you..I know the guy at Donnellans and I took it back to him and we put it up on the stand to take a look. Initially we thought it was the springs settling so I gave it a couple of weeks but it did not go away. We looked at it again and checked the install and found that it was the rear swaybar...it had come loose somehow. Donnellans could not understand why as they had apparently not touched the swaybar, but after tightening it, the noise was gone!

My guess is it is a Honda problem with the swaybar coming loose over time...not hard to tighten up, even DIY...

excuse the ignorance, but where is the rear sway bar?

Sorry, off the topic a little.

I didn't know the sway bar is standard on the Euro. Where should I look to check and tighten it?

ur springs not loose, just prob need to recheck if they properly inplace, u'll know when the springs loose, u can actually here the spring jumping up and down and sound like ur cars dragging metal.

it's under the rear wheel, a bit to the back, connected by 2 arm links (1 on each side). See some posts regarding whiteline rear swaybar, there should be some pics of it.

My '94 Vti does the same thing but only at a low speed 15-25km/h. What speed are you doing when you get the noise ?? I have had my car in about 4 times to get it fixed. 4 different places no one can find a problem, keep saying its a flat spot in the tyre. Please let us know the "fix" to this problem when or if you find one.

For the Euro guys with this sound, is it a single metal tap sound from the rear? Or a twang? If it is a tap, try increasing your tyre pressure to 38psi and see if it turns into a creak. If it does, then it is the parcel shelf.

Got the problem fixed today, went to ozzytyres and said 'wtf' they looked under the car, took it for a drive then fixed it.

When i asked what the problem was, they said...you guys were right, the sway bar came loose.

They fixed it no charge, so far that place has been nothing but pleasnt to deal with.

Rear underbody Sway bar is standard on almost all cars.. Just that you can get thicker and stronger aftermarket bar to improve the performance.. eg Comptech anad Whiteline..
