It definately does look like you are driving a remote control car around. It's annoying how it still stays up even when you are listening to a CD. Even a power aerial on a Commodore goes down when you transfer from radio to CD. For this reason I just disconnected mine so it always stays down. The radio reception isn't too great though on the down side.

My antenna goes down when cd is selected, must be something wrong with your wiring.

Depends on the Head Unit youve got..
ive got a poineer one and the antenna stays up!!
friends got a JVC one and the antenna goes down when your listening to CD and goes up when your listening to the radio. :)
yer ive got a pioneer headunit and it stays up when im listening to a cd even.
oh well at least we can laugh about it lol

ive got a clarion unit and it would control it to go down,
so i had the boys at my sound shop put a switch in...
by this time i had caught the bloody stupid thing on garage doors
and trees clothes lines and all sorts of shit so it is a little bent...
its a bit of a paint to flick a switch but less hassle for me

Yeah I got a JVC and that's correct, didn't know others didn't though.:)
It doesnt go down because with pioneer head units there is only one connection to the antenna which is on/off, which basically means that it goes up when on and down when off......where as with jvc, clarion etc.....ost have a switch that is dependent not only on power, but whether the radio is selected rather than the cd player...
I found this out from a mate that works in car audio and I found it pretty funny myself that such advanced head units dont even have this sort of simple tech...
oh ok, i got an alpine deck so thats maybe why. but its still fu**in masssive when it goes up!

Mine makes a shuddering noise on full extension and when it contracts down. anyone else having same problem and know how it can be fixed??

Get a new one, and yes it's very common with automatic aerials because they are activated every single time the ignition is turned on/off. Just wear and tear really.

Easy way to fix those annoying sound when your antennae not extending fully or doesnt come down all the way is with a can of WD40 and some rags.
I just fixed my few days ago and now it is working fine.
You basically just pull out the antennae out fully, spray the wd40 on the rag to give it a clean first to remove all the crap thats collected on it over the years, then spray some more on the antennae so it is lubricated. and finally turn on/off your head unit few times to work the wd40 in.

20-10-2005, 11:27 AM
yeh mine goes up fine, until it's almost fully extended then makes a grinding noise when almost completely up, then just clicks instead of detracting. I'm gonna try out some wd40, cheers for the idea ;), but I suspect internal mechanism is broken, and if it wasn't originally probably now is from pushing it down manually a few times.

I replaced my with the S2K one. Only cause I broke the OEM one on my CF Wing.
Benifits = The replacement cost & weight difference and wind resistance. Reception is the same, and I can't break this one.
Yes it is amplified. So you still need that power wire. You'll need to make a little 6in bracket with 2 bolt holes, then it's just a simple unbolt-rebolt job.

I had the mysterious clicking on mine as well, opened it up, is just two cogs interacting with each other, if your ariel has had a knock (or your g/f decided she wanted to listen to radio half way through a car wash, i.e.my car...) the teeth on the cogs can sheer off, thus the clicking/slipping noise

i have a Xplod deck and my antenna used to come down when i switch over from radio to CD, but just recently after my car needed a jumpstart and went to mechanics for a new master cylinder, the antenna constantly stays up even when im playing CD!!! so so weird!!!
Anyone got ideas on how this may have happened??

The s2k antenna seems to be the way to go! But i wouldnt want it in black. Does anyone know if it would interfere with the signal if i painted it? Also is the s2k antenna better quality than the teg antenna? It seems as if rubber would be a bad choice to try and pick up a frequency!
ok so it came time to fix the problem the nice and easy way...
i took out my Pioneer deck, disconnected the black antennae cable and went to check it. THE MOFO IS STILL WORKING SOMEHOW!!!!
im over it.
can anyone explain that shit. .. the IMMORTAL ANTENNAE!!! if theres other stufff i need to pulll out be specific coz it is a mess back there with cross-overs and all (not my bad, previous owner!)

Ha ha, mine is making the clicking and banging noises when extending fully and when it has retracted. It's hellish loud inside the car! I'll give that WD40 method a go.......

I rarely listen to it, is there a way I can access it in the boot and stop it from working completely?

i have the S2K aerial on my car, it was installed before i bought it but there is no problem in radio reception due to the fact it is rubber.
To be honest when i first saw it on the car i thought it looked a bit funny because it sat at a funny angle but then i moved it round so it lined up with the lines of the car, looks great now, way better then the stock one. I would highly recommend it.
Also the fact that it is black doesnt look bad at all, I think it would probably look worse if you painted it. Just my 2c.
Oh and yeah with out a doubt the S2K antenna is way better then the standard teg one.

Zen and Delta One: If you want the antenna to stop working completely, remove all the panels on the inside of the boot on the antenna side so that you can see the base of the antenna, then (remove it if you have to) disconnect what should be a two or three pin plug connecting to it. Removing the black plug will make no difference, as this is just the signal plug. Kinda like if you pulled the antenna plug from your TV but left it jacked into the wall ;)
South:
Unless you used lead-based (lol), the miniscule thickness of paint that you'd be using wouldn't make a difference.
Think about it, it's receiving signal through all that rubber, right? But I agree with Nabsie, if you've got black tyres, black trim etc, there's nothing to say it wouldn't tie in nicely as-is.
And if anyone has an s2000 antenna they need taken off their hands, pm me.

there should the a blue wire (remote) and a blue and white wire (antenna - shoud have labels 2 !!)
this could be the other way round with wire colours i think... either way u got them connected round the wrong way i think.....
start thred in the audio section and ur problem will be solved there

Turns out that both StanleyM and I were about to order 10 locustum antennae each at the same time, and in the end we decided that this would be too many to move, so I've just put in my order.
They'll be 7-10 days, and I'll post up a FS thread as soon as they get here, with all details, and walkthrough pictures of my install, for anyone interested.

i did the exact same things when i had my old deck its a very easy thing to do...... now coz ur antenna works on the same line as the remote etc... goes on and up when the car gets turned on..... u need to apply the switch further down the track.......
ill try explain this the best i can of maybe include a good old paint pic
http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/stanleym_69/untitled-2.jpg
now as you see the remote and antenna are the same until they spilt to go there seperate ways..... the remote wire goes back to the ignition section wheras the antenna goes to the motor to say go up or down (depending if there is power of not)
If you can follow the wire and work out which the antenna one is when it has split from the remote... u attach the switch in that spot.... this allows you to control when u want the antenna up or down even when the radio is on etc.....
What i did to work out which wire was right (this beiing in my dc2) was to look at the wire from where the antenna motor then had a look down the side of the car i think it was the driver side under the carpet ... where u feed rca's etc......
anyway i did that and followed it back to the antenna motor to make sure it was right.... (i was looking for the same wire colour combination......)
then i cut the wire installed the switch and worked great !! since then i changed to the s2000 antenna and changed headunit so no need fore the switch to be inplace....
hope this helps u a lil bit :):):):)
and in answa to stealing the s2000 thing.. they can steal just the antenna bit itself but not the whole base and wiring loom as that is screwed in from under boot..... not many people would know it can be unscrewed either.. but if u got fears unscrew it and put it in ur car when u park somewhere :):)

Just letting anyone watching this thread know, The antennae arrived today. Expect a for sale thread tomorrow, will contact the users who have asked for one already, they have dibs.
But in the meantime, I'm going to work, and will be putting together my DIY to go along with the FS thread.
So there are only 9, since I used one on my car (obviously) you'll want to get it quick.
