Has anyone used these range of oil in their B16A or honda engines. Should i get the 10W60 or 5W30.

5W-30. Been using it for ages and love it, cheap and effective.

what about mobil 1? synthetic?

i have been using 5w-30 and i keep getting check engine light when on low throttle and VTEC kicks in...

i think the oil is too thin to provide enough oil pressure at low rpm on light throttle...

it is OK though i just restart engine whilst rolling to clear the CEL...

this will probably not be a problem for engines that have a higher VTEC point than me ie 5000+

Been using it since my conversion. I like it. Its very thin (like water when pouring it into the engine) but i find nice smooth response and it hasnt broken down anywhere near as fast as the shell 10w40 i used to use. No probs with vtec, it custs in just over at 5000rpm.

5w30 Forumla R is better then 5w50 mobile 1 for our hi-revving engines. But then 5w30 mobile 1 is better then mentioned castrol.. They are all fully syntheic, thats the main point.

Run a good brand 5w30 - something + $50rrp (price matter with oil). Change every 5000k's. Simple!

castrol formula R 5w30 is better than Mobil 1 5w50???

you better start supplying some reasoning there buddy!!!

Well its nice and thin, lubricates everything quickly and withstands the hi-temp/rev that honda's produce. + drains out of the turbo even quicker.

I know plenty of sr20 owners who have switched from mobil 5w50 to castrol and havnt looked back.

I personally beleive its better for our hi-revving apps then a generic 5w50.

*shrugz* i am current using some Shell 5w30, costs about $35 or so for the 5L. Seems to be decent enough

I went from 5w-50 to 5w-30 and the engine definitely revved up much easier. 5w-50 a bit thick for the street IMHO, better for track where extra protection is needed.

I'm running Castrol R 0w-30 (in my DC2R)... and it is excellent... i really should go back to the 5w-30... probably better for my engine in the long run... but love the smoothness....using the bum-test it is much smoother than 5w-30...

sorrry to be a postwhore... i don;t think it really makes a diff about the weather... it'd be negligible in this case...

I used Castrol 5w 30 for a short time. I just found that it didn't really last up to the 5000km, hardly ever using vtec in daily driving and just a quick blat around Queensland raceway. Quite dark in colour.

My theory, a touch too thin.

Currently using Motul I think its V300 a 10w something synth. oil...... absolutely love it!! Driven over 4000km, 2 racedays and a practice track day. Just a golden honey colour, I mean definately need to change sometime in the next two weeks to keep the engine protected well but just amazing stuff.

This is in a EK4 b16.

If it was for the purpose of a dyno day, I would most likely go with the thinner Castrol 5w 30, just to get that .5 kw more. ;)

yeah man, its Motul 300v 10W 40 that i am using, fantastic oil, last time on the track, i burned out all of the engine oil, and didnt know until a hundred kms way home. amazingly, the engine didnt get worn. just filled up to the level and the engine works as usual.
for normally drive, include the 60, 50, 40 zones, not all freeway, one tank of Optimax can give me over 500kms travel sometimes, usually about 450kms. but other engine oil does not, like mobil 1 and Castrol

my car is eg6, jap spec b16a inside, standard 45L fuel tank.

btw, did anyone tried Mugen's VPro?? seems very good, but bloody expensive.....

Cheers

I'd be worried that after all that your oil is still golden colour. The oil should be absorbing all the gunk in your engine.........

i think honda feo is about $30 for 5 litres

If you are silly enough to listen to people who are trying to sell non genuine oils at a mega price then buy it. i think honda motor company in japan have designed the feo 10w/30 for a reason and thats because they have designed and built there own engines not anyone else

what wrong with 0-30 i used in my ek4 , no problems with it all. The only thing that sucked about it was the price. $80
