my idea involves YOU searching on this site.... thus providing you with information and therefore you can make a decision that suits you wants and needs... seriously there is plenty of info out there so search for it, its easier cause the answers are already there, you dont have to wait for ppl to reply that way :)...

CRVTEC - no competition.

I’d go the b20 route (CRVTEC). A lot of the problems with them are myths. Tinkerbell is the person to talk to about it.

As for price you’re going to have to call Honda wrecking yards and find out.

Just remember all the extra stuff you need.

-Transmission
-Engine mounts (I’m unsure what engine mounts you use for EG? EG6/9?)
-ECU (plus rewiring some of the loom due to the b20 being OBDII or a new standalone replacement like Hondata/Proecu)
-Header
-oil and fluids like coolant etc
-misc stuff like hoses and small parts

I’m not sure if the D-series axels are compatible with the b16 transmission. So you might need a set of those.

The easiest way to go would be to buy a b16a front cut and buy a b20 long block. It’s not the cheapest way to go but you won’t end up forgetting something.

Even with this swap your still going to need a header (the b16a header is too short for the b20/18 block you need to use a b18/20 header)

This is all from info I’ve gathered on the internet and I don’t have first hand knowledge so I could be wrong about some things.
I was going down this road myself but I’ve decided to go the safe option with a b18c

if u want more torque then a CRVTEC 2L would be good for ya but other then at 1.8L is all good, price between them is almost the same for the conversion

man why waste time with this post ? yes he could search, but his question is what would be more fun in bone-stock form - B20 or B18B..

IMO a stock non-vtec B20B (try to get B20Z as hias higher compression) in a civic matted to a civic/CRX/Integra (B-series) gearbox would be major fun. sure no top-end, but you got tractor-style low down torque.

while you're saving $$ or searching for parts to complete the B20/VTEC i'm sure a stock B20 would be a lot of fun. as someone else said, the diff between B18B and B20 in terms of cost etc is minimal so just get the B20 if u can.
