hey guys i picked up an engine the other day

i turned it on its side and oil dripped out where the dipstick should go..

i didn't realise oil was still in the pan

would this cause any problems for me at all?

Thats is a good thing, means the crank and bearings have been exposed to oil, not water moisture in the air. Therefore, less chance of corrosion...
If your really worried, sacrifice some oil and put 2 litres or so in the motor and then drain the new & old oil together from the sump plug.

it is only a problem if you put the block in the boot of your car without realising it is still FULL of oil first (don't ask me how i know...)

but iamhappy46 has covered it...
