EG and EK are the models, I'm not totally sure on this but I think EG goes from 1992 to 1995 or 96? Then EK is from 1996 to ****?

Cat_Spew has an EG civic on his avatar. Price? Maybe $9-$10k for a VTi... Kms would be approx 130k. I'm just judging by my own car, which is a 1994 model with 135k.

They are cute little cars. I too fell in love with the shape. Mod wise, I dont think much can be gained unless u invest a substantial amount of money. In which case you probably would look at buying a whole new car altogether. (unless of couse u are obsessed like me with EGs :D ). Anyway, hope that helps!

What are the specs on the Si version and what are the differences? I thought Vtec was the best one.

Have a search on VTi Vs Si, we have debated quite a bit on which model is better. The "VTEC" in the VTi civics is not a performance kind. As Danny said before, it is very fuel efficient. Probably the most fuel efficient 1.6L for its time.

Vti has one up on the Si being that:
They are newer (being made 1993 - 1995)
They come standard with sunroof

Si has one up on VTi being that:
They are DOHC
They are probably slightly cheaper than VTi's

Umm yeah do the search and theres prolly more differences that I have missed

Both have 96kw, and yes... we have witnessed a mighty Si thrashing a VTi

tanghy: I believe late 1994 & 1995 VTi civics have airbags

<<< Yeh that's it :D

If you were looking for some good performance you might be interested in getting a turbo kit for it? You can have the basic GReddy kit for around $2000, jsut ask Weq.
Not too sure on insurance but he would know.

I'm sure to get a good turbo setup, the kit and labour should add up to around $8k+???? I'll do a search on Si Vs Vtec now 8)

No way dude! 8K is a rip off, I'm not sure on the difficulty on installing the kit. But I'm sure Weq will tell you if you are able to do it yourself.

I'll keep that in mind dude, okay, after reading a couple of post re Si Vs Vtec I was wondering how much is it to install an aftermarket sunroof on the Si civics? Seems the DOHC will perform better with mods and the turbo kit. Has anyone on the forum added the turbo kit? What has the increase been like?

Bubblecivic maybe everyone could help you a little more if you let us know what you were after in your car.... performance? Just for daily driving? What vague plans would you have for it etc.... Show? Go?

my VTI has air bag but no ABS

did ABS come standard on the EG VTI

bubblecivic

Well in the meantime I'm after one as a daily driver and slowly build up both show and go. A nice set of rims would be first though and ofcourse an exhaust. Thought I'll be ending up with an auto. As for turbo, that can come later on down the track.

i think the ABS was optional not standard
i have a JAN 95 VTI but i got no ABS

Weq

Airbags and ABS were optional. I have neither on my '94 model. If u can get a good condition VTi id grab it. They come with a better interior (center console + velour trim on bucket seats) and a sunrood. Plus u get a nice SOHC VTEC motor. Mod wise, the DOHC zc has better NA potential, but the VTEC head on the VTi flows better with a blower attached.

But instead of the hot SI VS VTi debate, what kind of condition is this VTi in that u are looking at? KM's? Accident history?

My 1994 VTi has ABS and Airbag, why would u sacrifice sunroof 8), ABS and Airbag for an Si with the same power. If u gonna make it fast u would be better dropping in a B16 or B18 then playin round with the ZC!or evn D16y

actaully playing with a ZC isnt too bad
ZC is a pretty good engine.. :P

vti has no airbag

nah the 95 VTi's DO have airbags..

Tanghy do you remember Will's mettalic Blue VTi before he went to Sydney ??

it had an air-bag.. and ABS !!

you can even get the 92-93 Si ( Si-SRS ) with air-bag.. I saw one drive past me today on the bus.. very rare

8)

both ZC and D16Y1 are great engines for what they are.. personally I prefer the D16Y1 VTEC as in my own experience, it's a tad faster than the ZC in the top-end... like someone said, boosting the SOHC is very good, but even then you will still be tryin to cath that B16 or B18...

I'm still searching for a good one at the moment. Do I have any chance of picking up a nice done up (showcar) one for around 15k? I'm looking at getting an automatic too btw. Any ideas how much an aftermarket sunroof would be for the Si civics? Are there alot of civics at auctions and stuff? Where can I go (in Sydney) to look for some?

Hmm. No such recollection of any vti beating me upon and part of any drag aganst the plethora of ricers :P IE " twin cam works !"
If anything...the ZC (d18a8) beats a vti on all accounts.

But - IF you have $25,000 to blow- you can have one of the fastest single cammer NA 4cyl cars in the world :D
