i just bought an '94 gsi and im looking to get an exhaust system, anyone in adelaide got any recomendations for a place to go?? Is 2 1/4 the way to go? ive been getting huge variations in quotes- $350 at aussie discount nd $980 at exhaust technology (both cat back mufflers). I just dont want a crappy system, but i dont want to spend a fortune either (like most people!)
Thanks

Hey lux... welcome to OH... (another GSi owner , kewl :)).

Could you give us more info on your quoted systems? Eg. is it stainless or mild steel, mandrel or press bent, any certain brand muffler etc?

For a mild steel, mandrel bent catback system with muffler here in Sydney, you would be looking around the $350-500 mark.... that's excluding a hi flow cat.
$980??? More info pls... then others will be able to help you out..

regards,

Jon
edit: p.s: I think the general consensus that 2.25" piping is optimal for a slightly modded B18B engine...
Shoot "Phorte" a PM... i believe he drives a dc2 VTiR and is in adelaide... friendly dude, might be able to point u in the right direction. Not alot of SA members here atm....

$980 is for cat back stainless steel with mandrel bends, high flow cat (i think) and jun bl muffler.

is there much difference in gettting a cheaper mild steel system over a stainless steel? im 17 and at uni so money is hard to come by these days, making a cheap system veeeeeeeeery tempting...
thanks, luke

From advice I've previously been given, stainless is lighter and more durable than mild steel. "Performance" wise i believe both materials are the same (except for the weight "reduction").....

you'd definitely want mandrel bent stainless steel with 2.25" piping.. doesnt really matter on the muffler of brand.. thats just wank factor but as long as the piping diameter matches the rest of the piping its good.

if you're after a brandname muffler, check my friend melvin (http://www.teamazm.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2246) who has a few 5zigens going for $285 (grimfire_88@hotmail.com).

with regards to where to get it done, exhaust technology have a reputation of overcharging.. ring around more places.. i had mine done interstate but ive had people recommend exhaust techniques (http://www.exhausttechniques.com.au/) who are right near chinatown on gouger st.. just ring for a quote.

oh and yea, not many SA ppl on here =) so welcome! hope to see you around some time luke.

Where on earth do I go in Sydney for a catback... I mean, Australia's Best "undercar specialists" offered me $350 for just the muffler and adapter pipe, and a set of headers for $450.. I don't want the no name headers, but jeez, whats a price on a cat back - They told me not to change the back back pipes too.... interesting
sorry for the Hijack

Liverpool Exhaust are apparently frequented by a fair few of our forumers...
Also "Fussy's" in Lansvale? Canley Vale? are meant to be quite good... - 97260058...
