my car has white smoke whenever I started, and sometime smoke out when accelerate. I am losing oil but it didn't smell like burning oil that much...

Is my cyl rings gone ? How much would they set me back ?

you should get a "compression test" done to determin your problem.

Make sure you don't have an oil leak either from your oil seals

Is any garage mechanic can do this ? At which reading we can tell they need to be replaced ? Thanks guys.

A compression test involves removing your spark plugs and fitting a special pressure gauge(bit like a turbo boost gauage) and reading how much your pistons can compress the air/fuel mixture. Anything below 100psi is usually bad on a non-turbo car, below 60 is terminal.

There is a fair amount of labour involved in fitting new rings, as it requires most of the motor to be dis-assembled. I would say ATLEAST 10 hours labour, from memory. Factory in new gaskets, timing belt and oil seals for reliabilty suddenly your talking $1000 plus.
There are some special oil additives that you could add to try and get some more life out of the rings / engine.

I just got my timing bell and water pump replaced two months ago. I shouldn't change those right ? and where Mr Robert @ hanny is ? BTW, I am in Sydney.

Can he check my car out and tell me if I need to change rings ? Any idea how much does this consultancy cost ?

Leak down test should do it that

Comp test for the rings

Mine were 950 dry and 1300 wet on all cyls worn even but still losing to much oil for my liking

go open the oil cap with the engine on... when the rings are gone, you'll usually see puffs of smoke coming out of the valve cover

would it discolor the spark plugs?

i seen a friend change his spark plugs and 2 were a rusted color and the other were fine.. we didnt know what it is and thought mayb the rings are gone or the gasket..

the spark plugs can be turned brown by the PCV system...
