Looks like a new cold air intake is available for the Euro:

The interesting thing is the dyno doesn't show any loss of power or torque down low. Maybe because it is the automatic?

On tsxparts.com it sells for $259US. I like this part on their web site:
http://www.f5air.com/contact.html

"Fujita Air recommends the removal of the air intake system during any wet conditions" - like that is a practical option - remove the whole system when it rains? It doesn't have a SRI option so they expect you to remove the whole thing. Some serious backside protection going on there - in the land of litigation - the US of A.

good find! the gains dont seem that impressive tho? looks like a very similar design to the injen and k & n

It is hard to compare gains between dynos - and it is an automatic (you don't see many dynos of auto TSXs).

That said - on the same dyno this car has a peak 5% gain in power and 4% in torque. Not bad

Plus some parts of the rev range look above 5% gain. To top it off - no loss down low which is my biggest problem with the other CAIs available - and why I love the Icebox so much.

Can anyone say why the dyno says the car reached cut out at 6800rpm? (or is that a calibration issue with the dyno).

I have to remember to call the insurance company tomorrow and ask them what is their policy regarding CAI, if its a-ok then ima gonna order myself one :]

ah true, i didn't realise it was an auto, that's pretty impressive then. the dyno is a bit hard to read though. it seems as tho the orange line of the fujita intake does dip below the OEM intake slightly below 3.5k rpm - yfin, can you makeout/explain whats goin on there (i cant really see)

LOL @ the disclaimer...!

The dyno shows no loss of low end... That's nice....

You know the more I look at it something seems wrong with the X axis of that dyno - it is as if the whole axis should be moved to the right (6800rpm cut?) - and the start of the dyno shows a reading from 2900rpm.

I would like to see the figures below 2900rpm - as if there is a torque hole that is where it could be

It looks like a knockoff of INGEN

I'm inclined to agree: starting your graph at just below 3K rpm doesn't fill me with confidence and I'd assume that there's a big fat hole in the low rpm -- which, let's face it, is where most people live in day to day driving.

so fujita is better than injen or k&n, you reckon ?

inconclusive at this stage - need to see some more dyno's and real world impressions. my vote is still with injen/mugen air box

+1 For K&N Typhoon Intake and CompTech's IceBox :)

You wouldn't have a link to dyno's of those would ya by any chance. CAI will be my first mod (whenever that happens)

Thinking out aloud here - you have the auto. The gear ratios in the auto cover a greater range of speeds (ie 2nd gear VTEC at 6000RPM is already above 100kph whereas the 6mt hits VTEC roughly around 80kph in 2nd).

In other words - the 6mt gets through the gears much faster due to the shorter ratios.

This could mean any torque loss down low after fitting a CAI is going to be more noticeable in the auto at usual city speeds. Just a theory.

So perhaps choosing an intake that is more factory style is better for the auto - ie Icebox. Less likely to lose that torque down low. Someone speak up if you agree/disagree with this brain wave. I could be wrong.

Euroaccord13, not a fan of the injen i take it?

Billzor, i agree with yfin. Even with a 6mt i'm hesitant to sacrifice torque down low, and with the longer gear ratios of the auto it might make things worse, but then again maybe not. Hopefully some members with an Auto and a CAI can fill us in on the performance gains/torque losses

Yes please. Carn fellow auto'ers lol. I didn't even know CAI lost you low down torque at all. I had a CAI on my auto lancer and didn't notice it. Why would it effect it. I thought a CAI was only there to channel more cold air into the airbox/filter once the car is moving at a reasonable speed. If it was just taking off from a stop why does it loose torque?

I've got the Injen RD & an auto. Yes for normal driving there is low down torque loss. 0 - 3000rpm.

Since i've installed the injen i find myself driving in tiptronic 99% of the time on normal roads to best manage the revs.
I find myself driving in 1st, 2nd & 3rd gears, hardly in 4th or 5th.

You really need to be in 1st or 2nd if you need to pick up speed quick.

I don't know if there is any noticeable gain uptop but the noise is fabulous.

I've kinda became a show off-ey hoon with this installed :o.

Due to the loss of torque, i've once or twice really wanted to reinstall the stock airbox, but wouldn't be able to part with the acoustic loss.
I have tested the difference between the Injen (k&n) filter & Apexi dual air funnel and there is a noticeable lag with the original K&N.
Both filters where relatively new & clean.

Mano.

Not really, just that the K&N's filter run all the way to the front of the foggy duct... More water risk but more direct air :).....
